About the Book

English summary: "We kept marching on and on. Our destination was death. There was no food, and the next day was always worse than the one before. My father was no longer the handsome and strong man he once was. Only with great difficulty was he able to pull himself along, dragging his feet behind him, completely exhausted. He said to me: 'My son, I can no longer walk, but you have to march on. If you survive, tell people about everything that happened to us. Don't ever stop, even if they don't believe you!'" Since then Aleksander Henryk Laks has never stopped talking. In his deeply moving eyewitness account he carrys out his father's request and lends a voice to the millions of his fellow sufferers who became victims of the Nazi regime. He tells of his life in countless lectures. It is especially important to him to share his experiences with young people. The horrors suffered must not be forgotten by future generations, the lessons learned must be passed on and actively incorporated in everyday life. Aleksander Laks was born in Lodz and emigrated to Brazil after World War Two. He is chairman of the association of holocaust survivors in Rio de Janeiro. Every year he returns to the Flossenburg concentration camp, the last stop on his long odyssey through various concentration camps and the place where his father was murdered. This book was published in German thanks to VIEW, a group of dedicated students from the Gymnasium am Stadtgarten Saarlouis, and their teacher Christian Lanyi. The book first published in Portuguese was translated together with the students, who wanted to honor Alexander Laks and keep the memory of the past alive. German description: Wir marschierten immer weiter.
