Inhaltsangabe zum Buch:
Charlie Mears ist ein zwanzigjähriger Bankangestellter mit literarischen Ambitionen, dessen Motivation es im Moment ist, die seiner Meinung nach "schönste Geschichte der Welt" zu schreiben. In einigen Billardräumen trifft er auf einen Schriftsteller, dem er die Grundlagen seiner Geschichte zeigt, die er "Die Geschichte eines Schiffes" betiteln wird. Die überwältigende Fantasie, mit der der Junge das Schiff als griechische Galotte beschreibt, wird ihn in seinen Bann ziehen und alle möglichen Details liefern, die ein einfacher Junge, der Bankangestellter war und bisher kaum gelesen hatte, nur schwer zu erkennen war.
Wie ist es möglich, dass ein so kleiner Junge, der kaum gelesen hat, historische Abenteuer so leicht und detailliert erzählen kann? Es gibt Folgetermine zwischen den beiden, in denen Charlie weiterhin sehr anschaulich und ausführlich Situationen auf dem Boot, den Ruderern, der Anordnung der Ruder ... etc. schildert.
Nach aufeinanderfolgenden Sitzungen kommt der Autor zu dem erschreckenden Schluss, dass der Junge eine Art Seelenwanderung namens Metempsychose hat, die extreme Dualismen sind, die Seele verändert den Körper nach dem Tod.
Daraus wird geschlossen, dass Charlie definitiv zu anderen Zeiten eine Art griechischer Galeere gewesen war (Mann, der auf Galeeren zwangsweise paddelte). Es ist vorhersehbar, welche Ekstase der Schriftsteller erleidet, bevor er vor dieser großartigen Gelegenheit steht, Geschichten in Echtzeit schreiben zu können, von Dingen, die vor Tausenden von Jahren passiert sind ...
Biografie:
Joseph Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) war ein britischer Schriftsteller und Dichter, Autor großer Geschichten, Kindergeschichten, Romane und Gedichte, wie The Jungle The Book (The Book of the Virgin Lands, 1894), der Spionageroman Kim (1901), der Short Geschichte "Der Mann, der König sein würde" ("Der Mann, der König sein könnte", 1888), von denen viele ins Kino gebracht wurden.
Zu dieser Zeit lehnte er mehrere Auszeichnungen ab, aber 1907 nahm er den Nobelpreis für Literatur an und wurde ihm zuerkannt, was ihn zum ersten britischen Schriftsteller machte, der diese Auszeichnung erhielt, und zum bisher jüngsten Nobelpreisträger für Literatur.
