Dieser Titel befasst sich mit der 'Reise ins Gelobte Land (1479-80)' Hans Tuchers des Alteren, einem Pilgerreisebericht, der zu den bedeutendsten und meist rezipierten Reiseberichten des spaten Mittelalters und fruhen Neuzeit gehort. Mit dieser Arbeit wird der Text zum ersten Mal vollstandig und mit ausfuhrlichem Stellenkommentar kritisch herausgegeben. Mehrere kleinere Texte, u. a. Briefe Tuchers aus dem Heiligen Land, medizinische Rezepte fur die Reise und Tuchers Testament von 1490, werden dort ebenfalls erstmals ediert.Der vorangestellte Untersuchungsteil behandelt, beginnend mit einem Forschungsuberblick und der Vorstellung des Textkorpus, uberlieferungsgeschichtliche Aspekte des Werks. Neben der betrachtlichen Handschriften- und Druckuberlieferung des Tucherschen Reiseberichts (u. a. sechs Wiegendrucke, 27 Hss.) wird auch die des Parallelberichts vom Reisegefahrten Sebald Rieter d. J. (5 Hss.) erfasst und ebenfalls nach modernen Richtlinien beschrieben. Das oft festgestellte enge Abhangigkeitsverhaltnis zwischen dem Tucherschen und dem Rieterschen Reisebericht, der Tucher bei der Anfertigung seines eigenen Berichts vorgelegen haben musste, wird thematisiert, die Frage nach der Originalitat wird gestellt und anhand der Entstehungsgeschichte des Tucherschen Reiseberichts beantwortet. Hierbei vermogen neue Handschriftenfunde (u. a. ein bislang unbekannter Brief Tuchers aus Jerusalem, seine Arbeitsmanuskripte) den Entstehungsprozess wesentlich beleuchten. Aufgrund der ungewohnlich gunstigen Uberlieferungslage kann die Textentstehung vom Entwurf in einem Brief Tuchers aus Jerusalem uber mehrere Autorbearbeitungen bis zur endgultigen Druckfassung und Drucklegung vollstandig aufgezeigt werden. Besonderes Interesse gilt dabei der Mitwirkung des Nurnberger Ratsschreibers Jorg Spenglers bei der Erstellung des kurzlich bekannt gewordenen Druckmanuskripts und der Umsetzung desselben in den Druck. Die Markierungen vom Setzer/ Drucker in der Druckvorlage (casting off), die Mangel der Erstausgabe (Vorwurf des "vnfleissigs druckens") und unerlaubte Anderungen bzw. redaktionelle Eingriffe des Druckers in den Text, die Tucher veranlasste, im selben Jahr in Nurnberg eine autorisierte Ausgabe veroffentlichen zu lassen, werden eingehend untersucht und im Blick auf ihre Bedeutung fur die Fruhdruckgeschichte und unsere Kenntnis redaktioneller Vorgange im 15. Jahrhundert erlautert. Die weitere Druckuberlieferung wird im Anschluss daran bis ins 17. Jahrhundert skizziert, die Frage nach der auktorialen Leistung gestellt und diskutiert, letzlich werden auch auf Aspekte der Rezeption und Gebrauchssituation des Tucherschen Reiseberichts eingegangen.
