Philosophie zur Zeit der Entstehung der europaischen Universitat In der Historiographie der mittelalterlichen Philosophie hat das 13. Jahrhundert seit je einen besonderen Platz eingenommen. Im Zuge der institutionellen Trennung der Artistenfakultat von den hoheren Fakultaten an den neu entstandenen Universitaten wurden eigenstandige Curricula fur die Philosophie geschaffen, deren Gegenstandsbereich, Funktion und Status sich nun grundlegend wandelte. Erstmals gab es Professoren (magistri), die sich ausschliesslich mit philosophischen Texten beschaftigten, allen voran mit solchen des Aristoteles (und seiner arabischsprachigen Interpreten), dessen logische, naturphilosophische und moralphilosophische Werke man im 13. Jahrhundert zu einem umfassenden Wissenschaftssystem verband, welches erst im 17. Jahrhundert durch neue philosophische Formen verdrangt wurde. Durch die intensive Rezeption neu ubersetzter und kommentierter philosophischer Quellen auch in der Theologie geriet das Verhaltnis von Theologie und Philosophie zu Einem zentralen Thema und Gegenstand heftiger Auseinandersetzungen, in denen Angehorige der neuformierten Bettelorden, etwa Thomas von Aquin, oft Schlusselrollen einnahmen. Fur die Philosophiegeschichtsschreibung blieben herausragende Denker wie Thomas lange Zeit pragend, bis nicht zuletzt unter dem Einfluss der analytischen Philosophie seit Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts in intensiver Beschaftigung mit mittelalterlicher Logik und Sprachphilosophie auch andere Gelehrte verstarkt wahrgenommen wurden. Neuere Darstellungen der Philosophie des 13. Jahrhunderts konzentrieren sich entsprechend haufig auf zu heutigen Fragestellungen anschlussfahige Themenbereiche, sodass der nun erscheinende Band mit der Zugrundelegung eines dem Darstellungszeitraum angemessenen Philosophiebegriffs ebenso eine Lucke schliessen wird wie mit der Nachzeichnung der philosophischen Entwicklung in ihrer ganzen Breite, also unter Einbezug der Schriften bislang wenig beachteter Autoren. In bewahrter Grundriss-Manier liegt der Schwerpunkt des unter Mitwirkung vieler international renommierter Experten erstellten Bandes auf einer nach Regionen und einzelnen Autoren gegliederten Darstellung mit vielen Werkbeschreibungen und umfangreichen Bibliographien. Diese Kapitel sind eingerahmt von grossen Abschnitten zu den institutionellen Voraussetzungen und uberkommenen inhaltlichen Grundlagen des Philosophierens sowie zur systematischen Entfaltung einzelner Teilbereiche der Philosophie des 13. Jahrhunderts.

Arbeitsschwerpunkte systematisch: Probleme im Schnittbereich von Logik - Ontologie - Sprachphilosophie; historisch: Platon, Aristoteles, Kant, Wittgenstein sowie mittelalterliche Philosophie.
