Die vorliegende Schrift beschäftigt sich mit speziellen physikalischen Phänomenen, nämlich der durch Versuchspersonen verursachten Fernwirkung auf unberührte leblose Objekte. Das tatsächliche Vorkommen dieser Phänomene wird untersucht, um eine dem naturwissenschaftlichen Denken angepasste Erklärung zu finden. Die genaueren Ursachen jener Effekte entziehen sich nach wie vor unserer Kenntnis. Sie sind für uns transzendente Kräfte, deren Emission und Absorption durch einen medialen Organismus erfolgen. Es liegen gesetzmäßige Naturerscheinungen vor, die sich nur durch ein sehr seltenes Vorkommen von den häufig wahrgenommenen Vorgängen der Physik unterscheiden. Anstelle einer ängstlichen und mit Vorurteilen behafteten Ablehnung geht es dem Verfasser um eine sorgfältige Kritik der Berichte über die psycho-physikalischen Phänomene und um die experimentellen Nachprüfungen am Versuchsobjekt selbst. Die konkreten Tatbestände sind von ihm ohne Rücksicht auf ihre philosophische Bedeutung wie jede andere naturwissenschaftliche Erfahrung möglichst genau und unter verschiedenen Bedingungen festgestellt worden. So ist er zu einer Gesamtanschauung gelangt, die auf den biologischen bzw. naturwissenschaftlichen Erfahrungen fußt. Der Sprung ins Dunkel eines spiritistischen Geisterreichs war dabei weder nötig, noch beabsichtigt. Vielmehr sind die dargestellten Beobachtungen und Theorien wegen der aktuellen Entwicklung der Quantenphysik wichtiger denn je, um zielbewusste Fragen an die Natur zu richten, und um die - im vorliegenden Fall physikalischen - Phänomene methodisch weiter untersuchen zu können.
About the Author: Der Mediziner Albert Freiherr von Schrenck-Notzing (* 18. Mai 1862 in Oldenburg; + 12. Februar 1929 in München) war einer der Gründer der Psychologischen Gesellschaft in München und ein Pionier der Erforschung psycho-physikalischer Phänomene. Seine bis in die zwanziger Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts durchgeführten Untersuchungen erregten erhebliches Aufsehen. Sogar Thomas Mann, einer der bedeutendsten Erzähler des 20. Jahrhunderts in deutscher Sprache, berichtete darüber (Okkulte Erlebnisse, 1924, in: Essays II 1914-1926).
