About the Book

Bernard Lassus hat der internationalen Landschaftsarchitektur der vergangenen drei Jahrzehnte wie nur wenige andere wichtige Impulse gegeben. Er ist nicht nur ein querdenkender Landschaftsarchitekt und Künstler, sondern wirkt in seinen Arbeiten auch als Historiker, Konservator, Archäologe, Botaniker und Gärtner. Mit seinen Projekten widmet er sich den Landschaften von Autobahnen und Industriebrachen ebenso wie historischen Gärten und den «vernacular gardens», den nicht-professionell angelegten Gärten und der Ideenwelt ihrer Besitzer. Anlässlich seines 80. Geburtstags ist ihm ein Band gewidmet, der wesentliche Facetten seines Werks und Wirkens für ein internationales und deutschsprachiges Fachpublikum erschließen möchte. Die diesen Band einleitenden Beiträge beleuchten Lassus Werk aus einer internationalen Perspektive. Mit Stephen Bann, Michel Conan und John Dixon Hunt nehmen Autoren dazu Stellung, die seit drei Jahrzehnten mit Lassus zusammenarbeiten und mit seinen landschaftsarchitektonischen Projekten wie auch mit seinen theoretischen Vorstellungen vertraut sind wie wohl niemand sonst. Ein zweiter Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem Wirken von Lassus in Deutschland und vor allem an der Gesamthochschule Kassel in den 1980er Jahren sowie aktuell an der Leibniz Universität Hannover. Eine Auswahl von Beiträgen Bernard Lassus aus deutschsprachigen Fachzeitschriften und Buchpublikationen wird im zweiten Teil des Bandes präsentiert und bietet einen Einblick in seine Sicht der Landschaftsarchitektur.
