About the Book

Unter den ältesten jiddischen Sprachquellen aus der Zeit vor 1450 sind mehrere hebräisch-jiddische Bibelglossare von bedeutendem Umfang - zusammen dürften sie über 80.000 Glossen enthalten. Bisher sind nur Proben davon veröffentlicht worden, eine Beschreibung dieser sehr unterschiedlichen Zeugen für das frühe Jiddisch fehlt. So konnte sich Max Weinreich für seine »Geschichte fun der jiddischer schprach'« (1973) nur auf spärliche und nicht verläßlich edierte Kostproben stützen.

Die vorliegende Ausgabe leistet dreierlei. Zum einen liegt nunmehr eine Edition des sehr umfangreichen und sprachlich außerordentlich vielgestaltigen »Hiob«-Teils aus neun handschriftlichen und zwei gedruckten Quellen mit über 15.000 Eintragungen vor, die vom späten 14. Jahrhundert bis zu dem Prager Druck des »Lekach tov« von 1604 einschließlich reichen. Beschreibungen aller Quellen sind beigefügt. Zum zweiten erschließen ein Stellenkommentar, Beschreibungen der Schreibsprachen aller Quellen und mehrere Register das hier gebuchte Sprachmaterial. Zum dritten wird ein Einblick in die Verschiedengestaltigkeit dieses Quellentyps und in unterschiedliche Versuche der Glossatoren ermöglicht, zu einem adäquaten Verständnis des Bibeltextes zu gelangen. Forscherinnen und Forscher der deutschen Sprachgeschichte und Jiddistik, aber auch der Judaistik bekommen hier erstmals ein sehr umfangreiches Material im Überlieferungszusammenhang erschlossen, das Anregungen für unterschiedliche Untersuchungen geben kann.
