About the Book

English summary: This volume provides an annotated collection of around 450 inscribed texts along with the dates and initials from 83 additional objects originating from a rural area of Lower Saxony. Only around 60 inscriptions date from medieval times, whereas major parts of the source material go back to the early modern age. Along with the already documented inscriptions of the city of Hildesheim (DI 58), the relationship between center and periphery in a key area of the former Guelph territories can now be revealed in terms of an epigraphic tradition, based on a total of almost 1500 inscriptions, initials and dates.
