Für die analytische Bestimmung von Wasser in Stoffen aller Art kennt man ver- schiedene Methoden, die sowohl von der zu untersuchenden Stoffart als auch von der Genauigkeit der Wasserbestimmung selbst abhängen. Auf diese Eigenarten deutet die ungewöhnlich große Zahl der Analysenmethoden hin, und oftmals sind noch zusätzliche Sondervorschriften zu berücksichtigen. Als Verfahren zur Be- stimmung des Wassergehaltes, die über einen größeren Bereich Gültigkeit be- sitzen, sollen genannt sein: a) Trocknung der Substanzen und Bestimmung des Gewichtsverlustes b) Entfernung des Wassers durch azeotrope Destillation c) Chemische Umsetzung des Wassers mit einer Reagenzlösung bekannter Wirk- samkeit Neben diesen chemischen und physikalisch-chemischen Methoden gibt es noch eine Reihe physikalischer Verfahrel1, wie z. B. die Wasserbestimmung über die Dielektrizitätskonstante, die Leitfähigkeit, die Längenänderung (z. B. Haare, Kunststoffäden) etc. Diese letztgenannten Verfahren besitzen oftmals nur einen beschränkten Anwendungsbereich und sollen hier nicht weiter diskutiert werden. Zu a) Trocknung der Substanzen und Bestimmung des Gewichtsverlustes Überlicherweise verwendet man für feste Substanzen - gelegentlich auch für Flüssigkeiten - die Trocknung. Die Geschwindigkeit und die Vollständigkeit des Wasserentzuges ist abhängig von der Differenz zwischen dem Wasserdampfdruck in der zu untersuchenden Substanz und demjenigen in der umgebenden Atmo- sphäre. So kann durch Temperatursteigerung der Wasserdampfdruck der Unter- suchungssubstanz erhöht werden, der der umgebenden Atmosphäre durch An- legen eines Unterdruckes oder durch Verwendung von Trocknungsmitteln er- niedrigt werden.
