Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 2,7, Universität Trier, Veranstaltung: Der Holocaust in der polnischen und deutschsprachigen Literatur, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Das Drama "Der Stellvertreter" von Rolf Hochhuth entstand 1959 und wurde 1963 von Erwin Piscator in Berlin uraufgeführt. Das christliche Trauerspiel beschäftigt sich mit der Schuldfrage der Kirche - insbesondere von Papst Pius XII. - im Zusammenhang mit dem Holocaust zur Zeit des NS-Regimes und löst nach der Uraufführung heftige Reaktionen aus. Hochhuths Provokation führte zu einer grundlegenden Debatte und stellte den bislang als vollkommen erachteten Papst infrage. Bereits zuvor war die Schuldfrage des Papstes im Holocaust diskutiert worden. So bemerkt der Historiker Sánchez zu Beginn seiner umfangreichen historischen Untersuchung: "Seit den 60er Jahren wird die Rolle Pius' XII. beim Holocaust regelmäßig so umfassend und so häufig untersucht, daß es ungewiß bleibt, ob dieser Streit jemals entschieden werden wird" (Sánchez, XII). Eine große deutsche Tageszeitung schreibt kurz nach der Uraufführung: "Das umstrittene Schauspiel des Jahrhunderts". Das fünf Akte umfassende Drama zeichnet sich durch großen Figurenreichtum aus, wobei die antagonistische Figurenkonstellation die Brisanz des Themas signifikant erhöht. Es existieren drei Parteien, die im Gegenspiel zueinander auftreten: Das NS-Regime, repräsentiert durch den Doktor, Eichmann, Dr. Fritsche und Regierungsrat Dr. Pryzilla. Die Kirche, vertreten durch Papst Pius XII., Pater Riccardo Fontana, den apostolischen Nuntius sowie Kurt Gerstein als den Saboteur des Regimes. Die zwei korrelierenden Parteien Kirche und politischer Saboteur sind Thema meiner Untersuchung. Die Forschung in Bezug auf den "Stellvertreter" ist vielfältig und bezieht sich meist auf die vom Stück provozierte Brisanz.
