Man wird gut tun bei solch isolierten Gestalten dem öffentlichen Urteil nachzugehen, auch wenn es nicht genügt. Und wie es für den echten Dichter kein völlig abgestorbenes Urwort geben kann, so gibt es für den echten Historiker keine Plattheit hinter der er nicht einen ursprünglichen, verschollenen Sinn spürte.
