About the Book

Dichos de mi Padre is a personal reflection of dichos, also known as folk wisdom, passed on from grandparent to parent to child. Dichos, are something everyone can relate to in life. They are universal. The stories contained in this book give the reader insight into Mexican culture, family traditions and values, and spirituality. You will also learn about family history. Dichos de mi Padre honors our ancestors and expresses the pride of being a Mexican-American. We all stand on the shoulders of our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles and aunts. They influence us and contribute to who we are. This is a book about family and the richness of our connections and the values we hold dear.
About the Author: Geneva Maria Escobedo was born in Safford, Arizona. She left her small, rural town after graduating from Eastern Arizona College. She lived in Phoenix, Arizona 27 years and worked in the financial and telecommunications industry, and later worked for a non-profit organization and Arizona State University. Geneva completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University and her Master's in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. She resides in Tucson, Arizona and retired after a 30-year career in higher education. Her community college and university work included marketing and promotion, student development, multicultural programs, minority recruitment and retention, grant writing/grant management, and developing programs for underprepared college students. She began journaling during her college years and joined two women's writing groups to pursue her goals to write and publish poetry and short stories. In 2012 a short story and several poems were published in a women's anthology, Our Spirit, Our Reality: celebrating our stories. Her poems were also published in Pima Community College's art and literature magazines, SandScript (2014) and Cababi Art & Literary Magazine (Fall/Winter 2015). Also in 2015, Geneva was one of 12 authors who contributed a short story and family recipe to Frijoles, Elotes, y Chipotles, Oh My! & Other Tummy Tales, a publication developed by Journey Through Our Heritage Mauricio Saravia Poetry and Community Awards Project funded by the Metropolitan State University of Denver, Office of Institutional Diversity. Geneva is one of over 30 women from the Southwest featured in a multi-cultural, multi-generational photo-journalistic exhibit, Return of the Corn Mother. The women represented earned accolades for community activism and creative endeavors. Each woman featured recounts a story from her memories of the women who influenced her in her life journey. Dichos de mi Padre is Geneva's first book. She enjoys writing about Mexican culture, family, spirituality and personal growth.
