About the Book

A short tragic-comic play set in Ireland in 1940, exploring Ireland's neutrality in World War Two. The loyalties of three members of Ireland's Local Security Force are tested to the limit with the arrival of a stranger at their remote look-out post. Do they hand him in to the Guards or help him escape?
About the Author: Stuart D Lee began writing with a full-length play set in the First World War called 'The Ghosts May Laugh' which was produced in Oxford and then Edinburgh. This is available from Playscripts.com, and is now widely used in A-level teaching. 'The Attic' won the 2007 Oxford Writers/Oxford Playhouse New Writing Competition (produced in 2007); followed by 'Never Tell Them' which won the 2008 Oxford Writers/Oxford Playhouse New Writing Competition (produced 2008). In addition I have had two short plays on at the Oxford Playhouse Playbites competitions - 'Leaf-mould' and 'The Intricate Workings of a Sherbet Lemon', and a third as part of the Oxford Playbites season 'An Academic's Progress'. The first was also produced by Semper Theatre Company as part of their 'Wonder' competition (Birmingham, 2010) and 'Sherbet Lemon' was produced as part of the Off-Cut Festival, Red Lion Theatre, London (2009), and performed by three separate companies in 2013. He directed a production of 'Never Tell Them' as part of the Oxford Fringe Festival (2010). This latest - 'Dev's Army' - is set in Ireland in 1940 which was shortlisted twice in 2010, and won the new writing competition for the Galway Theatre Festival. It was produced by Elysion Productions of Manchester and went on tour through 2011 (Manchester, Buxton, Preston) and 2012, and is being considered as their first film production. It is also being proposed as part of Durham Drama festival in 2015. Meanwhile 'Quiz Night at the Britannia' (workshopped by Players Playwrights, London, 2006) has toured with the Deck Theatre Company (Oxford Fringe Festival, 2011 and 2012), and is possibly in production in the lead up to the election in 2015. He has one unproduced play - 'Aynho Turn'; and two in draft 'The San' and 'That Google Thing'.
