About the Book

When I awoke on the morning of the 29th of June, I felt no different to how I had done on any other Monday morning when I arose for work. The birds still sang and the sun still shone through our bedroom window after the opening of the curtains just as it always had. There was nothing that outwardly told me that an event that had taken place overseas could have caused such a catastrophe that would reach us back home in England... To mark 100 years since the start of the First World War, Devitt's Fading Light is the story of Alexander Devitt and his journey through life and maturity during such conflict. As a born-and-raised Lincolnshire lad, he leaves behind the county he had never stepped out of, his country that had served him well and the wife that he loved dearly for he thought would be a Boy Scout adventure. He soon learns that he couldn't have been further from the truth. While Alexander is away, Elizabeth is left at home to man the Home Front alongside the other women of 1914 England. She learns how to do jobs and tasks that she would have never had the opportunity to do when the men were at home and struggles with the fact that she shall know her child will be born while their father is in France. A novella where the story of the First World War is told from both sides of the conflict - from those who went out to fight and those who were left behind. The heartbreak and despair of witnessing the loss of comrades and friends to the violence of the trenches and the loneliness but strange sense of liberation are embedded into every page of this book, ready to be shared with the reader.
About the Author: Lita Rosen has lived in Lincolnshire all her life, and does so with her family and dogs. She currently volunteers at a Community Radio Station in Lincoln called Siren FM where she is a Radio Show Host. Her first novel - Xiao, Ai (Little, Love) was self-published in 2013 and is set in a parallel world equivalent of Ancient China called Sinae.
