So wie umgekehrt Deutschland der größte europäische Handelspartner Chinas ist. Im Mai 2004 haben beide Länder eine gemeinsame Erklärung veröffentlicht, in der es heißt, dass sie im Rahmen der strategischen Partnerschaft zwischen China und der europäischen Union eine verstärkte Partnerschaft in globaler Verantwortung aufbauen wollen. Im Zuge dessen entstanden in den letzten beiden Jahrzehnten zahlreiche deutsch-chinesische Joint-Ventures, die teilweise sehr erfolgreich gestaltet werden konnten, jedoch auch an eklatanten interkulturellen Missverständnissen scheiterten. Neben harten Erfolgsfaktoren des Managements beeinflussen auch die weichen Erfolgsfaktoren, wie kulturelles Wissen und Verständnis, Anpassung, Respekt, unterschiedliche Interaktionsformen und divergierende Gesprächs- und Führungsstile den Erfolg oder Misserfolg eines Joint-Ventures. Durch den wachsenden internationalen Wettbewerb wird der erfolgreiche Umgang mit den kulturellen Unterschieden für internationale Unternehmen immer ausschlaggebender.
