En su libro El texto histórico como artefacto literario y otros escritos, Hayden White expone que del mismo modo que un novelista tergiversa la historia en su narración, el historiador que emplea la narrativa como modelo discursivo crea una modalidad de intriga y una estrategia explicativa idéntica a la del novelista. De la misma manera, el historiador debe formular las preguntas adecuadas sobre "cuál habrá sido el caso", tal como si fuera un detective competente.

Por otro lado, en su libro Historia y narratividad, Paul Ricoeur plantea que es la configuración narrativa la que define la realidad histórica. Añade que la imaginación histórica y la novelística se encuentran unidas en la elaboración de las tramas. El entrecruzamiento entre la historia y la ficción lo denomina "referencia cruzada". Indica que la historia objetiva se nutre del testimonio veraz o la evidencia. Cualquier variante de esta norma podría significar el ingreso de la ficción en la historia.

El escritor puertorriqueño Luis López Nieves crea, sin duda, una interesante dualidad entre la narrativa y la historia que transgrede los paradigmas de la literatura clásica al reinventar acontecimientos históricos mediante un giro ficcional o procedimiento literario que ha llamado la atención tanto de la crítica literaria como de la academia. Del mismo modo, el autor establece un precedente y una aportación innovadora a la literatura puertorriqueña con la incorporación de personajes que he denominado los "detectives de la historia". Tanto el profesor de historia en Seva como el genetista en El corazón de Voltaire y la historiadora en El silencio de Galileo adoptan el comportamiento del "detective clásico" en los procedimientos que usan para demostrar la veracidad de unos hechos y consideran el pasado engañoso como si se tratara de un crimen.

La doctora Maribel Rivera Ortiz (Maribel R. Ortiz, 1967) posee una maestría en Creación Literaria de la Universidad del Sagrado Corazón y un doctorado en Literatura Puertorriqueña y Caribeña del Centro de Estudios Avanzados de Puerto Rico y el Caribe. Ha publicado reseñas y comentarios de textos para catálogos editoriales, revistas literarias y medios virtuales. Bondades de Cronos, su primer poemario (Terranova Editores, 2005), fue premiado en la Categoría de Ópera Prima por el PEN Internacional. Publicó poemas en la Antología (Per) Versiones del paraíso: Poesía puertorriqueña entresiglos (Madrid); en la revista literaria Baquiana (Miami) y en la revista virtual Letralia (Venezuela). Publicó un cuento en la antología queer Los otros cuerpos y en la revista literaria Letras Nuevas, donde redactaba la columna: "De la novela al cine". Pronto publicará sus libros: Techo de cristal: otros posmoemas, (poemario), Miradas en negro (relatos de género policíaco) y Rojo Hemisferio Raro (cuentos de crímenes y suspenso).
