La novela de Francisco Angulo, "Destino La Habana", nos sumerge en el trepidante día a día de Alfonso Núñez Balboa, ex comandante de a bordo de Iberia con más de 25.000 horas de vuelo. A través de este relato en primera persona, el autor nos transporta a la España de 1930 a 1960 y nos hace revivir la edad de oro de la aviación comercial a través de la mirada maravillada de su héroe.

Núñez es originario de un pequeño pueblo en la provincia de Teruel, en Aragón. Desde muy joven está fascinado con el vuelo de los aviones que sobrevuelan su escuela. Esta vocación temprana lo empujará a alistarse en una academia militar desde los 18 años para convertirse en piloto. Sus primeros años en el ejército español no serán nada fáciles. Núñez deberá demostrar perseverancia y abnegación para ascender y llegar a ser radionavegante.

Sus primeras misiones lo sumergirán en situaciones rocambolescas, empezando por un vuelo movido en el escuadrón apodado "Grupo 14", compuesto por una tripulación por decir lo menos pintoresca. Más adelante, Núñez participará en la Guerra de Ifni y en la Crisis de los Misiles en Cuba, dos conflictos mayores del siglo XX.

Progresivamente, Núñez pasará del mundo militar a la aviación comercial al integrarse en la compañía Iberia. Allí también, sus talentos como piloto serán puestos a prueba. Tendrá que demostrar sangre fría y rapidez para evitar lo peor. Sus misiones lo llevarán a los cuatro rincones del globo, desde América del Sur hasta Europa, pasando por Canadá. Cada vuelo es una oportunidad para que Núñez acumule experiencia y sacie su pasión por el cielo.
