About the Author:
Shelby Jade Hotz first started writing in sixth grade when her teacher liked the story she wrote so much that she asked her to read it to the principal. Encouraged by this, she spent a good portion of her free time throughout junior high and high school penning plots for short stories. Her first major endeavor was a 17-chapter fan fiction book, a sequel to one of her favorite movies. The e-coli poisoning that Shelby suffered at twenty months caused her kidneys to fail and she spent months on peritoneal dialysis. Her kidneys continued to decline over the next few years and at age five, she received a transplant from her mother. Even though the thirteen years since then have been a roller coaster ride medically, Shelby's writing has helped her overcome it all. She began writing Destination: Michigan during her freshman year and finished it right before he last year of high school. Now during her senior year, she is working on the sequel and intends to add a third to for a three-book series. Shelby lives in the outskirts of Penngrove, California with her parents, younger sister, six dogs, two cats, one parrot, one parakeet, three goats and eight chickens. Her sister, Crystal Rose Hotz provided the illustrations for Destination: Michigan.
