DESEMPLEO es una novela dramática contemporánea donde el lector encontrará una intrincada red de situaciones personales vinculadas al desempleo que es cada vez más preocupante en América Latina.
Así en esta obra, basada en gran parte en situaciones reales conocidas muy de cerca por el autor, el Dr. Milton Portos Díaz, se interrelacionan personajes de diferentes clases sociales víctimas del desempleo; desde hurgadores de residuos domiciliarios y humildes jornaleros hasta ejecutivos de importantes empresas que han sido desempleados.
En el transcurso de la trama se verá que en diversas alternativas que toman especial relieve en su décimo capítulo estas personas en desempleo se vinculan con empresarios en actividad o retirados, profesionales universitarios de diversas disciplinas y ocultos traficantes de drogas. A ellos se agregan importantes personajes como detectives privados, funcionarios policiales y astutos periodistas comprometidos a dar a conocer las diferentes acciones de los individuos en situación de desempleo en su dramática lucha por recuperar la situación previa a la pérdida de su trabajo a la espera de un cambio de suerte que ya se esboza en el tercer capítulo del libro.
Los dos personajes más importantes de esta obra y sus familias se encuentran en polos opuestos de la escala social pero ambos viven los dramas de su desempleo en forma paralela en la proximidad de su accionar pero desconociéndose personalmente hasta muy avanzada la novela. Los contrastes de esa grieta social se reflejan en las conductas de sus respectivas familias donde los graves conflictos de pareja rodeados de elementos disfuncionales en la conducta de sus hijos de unos contrastan con la dedicación y el amor filial de los otros.
La acción se desarrolla en la Ciudad Capital de un país de América Latina y en dos de sus países limítrofes de similares características socioeconómicas donde la cantidad progresiva de gente en desempleo es cada vez más preocupante y las soluciones a esa problemática ameritan muy importantes cambios de la conducta humana a través de decisiones sociales relevantes frente al desempleo enunciadas al final de esta publicación en la búsqueda de nuevos horizontes.
En medio de las circunstancias generales políticas y sociales sin duda determinantes de la inmensa mayoría de estas repercusiones sobre la desocupación de elementos tales como el teletrabajo, la automatización de procedimientos, la robotización etc. la superación personal como se encara en el último capítulo de esta novela se puede lograr a través de cambios de actitud individual en muchas ocasiones y el conocimiento de personajes famosos que sufrieron el desempleo es un motivo relevante para ello pues figuras de la talla de Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, J.K. Rowling y el mismísimo Walt Disney perdieron sus empleos en las primeras etapas de sus respectivas carreras.
