About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

A novel about Ariadna Efron and her mother, Marina Tsvetaeva.

Soviet Union, 1947. In the inclement heart of Siberia, inside one of the hundreds of forced-labor camps that the Stalinist regime has established around the country, Ariadna Efron endures what she believes will be the last year of an absurd sentence. Her crime: being the daughter of Sergei Efron--the supposed double agent of the secret police who allegedly participated in a political attack--and of Marina Tsvetaeva--who chose for herself the sublime destiny of being a free spirit, which is enough of a motive to be censured by the State. Nevertheless, Ariadna doesn't suspect that she still has a long way to go in the re-education system of the Soviet state, or that she will have to take on the task of defending her mother's work, much less that love will save her from a grim destiny.

Based on real and fictionalized events, From the Heart of Siberia intertwines the story of Ariadna Efron and her mother, Marina Tzvetaeva, one of the greatest poets that Russia has produced. It is also the story of an era marked by disgrace, betrayal, madness, and injustice, where only love, in all its forms, is capable of transforming its fate.
