About the Book

'The Derivation of Mathematics: Mastering Secondary School Mathematics' delivers a logical, easy-to-learn approach to Mathematics for students, teachers and parents. Author, Paul McNamara has combined his love of Maths, with his academic and professional experience to develop the MSSM program. With its clear, detailed explanations of Arithmetic (the most basic branch of Mathematics), this program develops a deep understanding of the subject that students can apply to real world situations. This book is formatted so that each chapter is a stand-alone module that students can work through methodically and logically. It introduces, not only Arithmetic, but the concepts of basic Algebra and Geometry without overwhelming readers with other branches of mathematics. Its purpose is to lay the foundation for further study into Mathematics. The author's hope is to 'ignite a passion for Mathematics in school students' resulting in students who are self-confident learners and problem solvers. By developing their full learning potential they will make a real contribution to the world.
About the Author: After completing high school, Paul McNamara won a university scholarship to study a science degree and pursue his interest in Pure and Applied Mathematics (as well as Physics). By the third year of his degree, he was gaining good results in the majority of his subjects and so was promoted to the Honours program in Physics. After leaving university, Paul pursued a career in the emerging field of computing. He became a computer technician - applying basic logic and physics to manufacturing and repairing of computer hardware. After working for two years in manufacturing, Paul realised that in order to create a successful career in computing he required an electrical engineering degree (or equivalent). So he returned to university as a mature-age student. During this period, Paul worked as a university tutor and was also accepted into the Masters of Pure Mathematics program. At this stage, Paul decided to follow his passion for understanding the Theory of Relativity and switched faculties to enrol in a Master of Physics degree. Within six months, the Physics faculty decided to upgrade his course to a PhD program which led to Paul spending five years tutoring in Physics and gaining his PhD degree (with a thesis in General Relativity). Following this seven year detour, Paul then returned to his previous career in computing. After spending another seven years working full-time in the computer and business fields, Paul made the decision to branch out and pursue consultant/contractor projects. Since then, he has worked as a project manager, a program manager and a consultant. Nevertheless, throughout his whole career, Paul's passion for Mathematics and Physics has never wavered; his hobby has been to continue to improve his understanding of their foundations. Paul currently lives in Brisbane with his wife, and has two children. He spends his leisure time catching up with family and friends, and enjoying his sporting passion - tennis.
