About the Book

English summary: Human beings suffering innocently raise the question of why God allows fundamental evil. This leads to the presumption that God himself has his responsible part in the realization of suffering. The biblical texts of complaint and accusation open space and time for such inquiry and offer the possibility of the readers' own performance of lament. But is it really permitted to speak with God and to God in this way? Psalm 44 is Israel's cry of charge to his God as a prayer. In this psalm the literary concepts of the afflicted prophet, the substitutional suffering servant of God, as well as of Job disputing against his creator, come to their culmination. Israel himself is the righteous servant, who contributes to the divine glorification through his disease. The accusatory texts of the Bible take God seriously in his responsibility for the preservation of his orderly creation and require his healing presence. They are Israel's dramatic and theocentric testimony for God, they are theology. German text.
