Die Zahl der berufstätigen Frauen, Selbstständigen und Unternehmerinnen wächst ebenso wie das Einkommen. Studien zufolge bestimmen Frauen über 80 Prozent der privaten Haushaltsausgaben und bilden damit eine machtvolle und kaufkräftige Zielgruppe. Außerdem entwickeln Frauen heute eine deutlich stärkere Affinität zu technischen Produkten. Auch der Zuwachs der Frauen in technischen Berufen steigt deutlich an. Ein Beispiel aus der Automobilbranche zeigt, dass Handlungsbedarf bei den Unternehmen besteht. Der Anteil der weiblichen Autofahrer wird laut der Discover Gender Studie von der Frauenhofer Gesellschaft in den kommenden 20 Jahren von 30 auf 50 Prozent anwachsen. Frauen haben aber andere Anforderungen an ein Fahrzeug, als Männer. Die Manager und Produktentwickler sind jedoch fast immer Männer. Gerade deshalb ist es für viele Unternehmen so schwierig, sich auf ihre weibliche Zielgruppe einzustellen. Laut der Studie Women-Panel von MediaAnalyzer fühlt sich die Mehrheit der weiblichen Führungskräfte und Unternehmerinnen als Konsumentinnen von der Werbung kaum oder gar nicht angesprochen. Wenn Frauen angsprochen werden, dann meistens über Klischees die die Mehrheit der Frauen jedoch ablehnen. Männer hingegen sehen ihre Aufgabe nicht mehr ausschließlich in ihrer Karriere. Sie haben eine größere Vielfalt von Aufgaben und Rollen übernommen, werden jedoch in den Medien noch eindimensional und stereotyp dargestellt. Der Trendreport -eine Studie von der SevenOneMedia- zeigt, dass Männer im Reiniger- und Lebensmittelmarkt als Zielgruppe noch zu wenig erkannt sind.
