Ein längerer Krankenhausaufenthalt und seine Gebrechlichkeit während der ersten Phase der Rekonvaleszenz machen die Anschaffung einer fahrbaren Gehhilfe für Sebastian notwendig. Sein speziell ausgesuchter und mit allen Komfort ausgestatteter Rollator wird bald zu seinem besten Freund. Speed Jazz Oskar wie er ihn nennt, ist geduldig, hört ihm zu und akzeptiert die Befehlsgewalt von Sebastian ohne zu widersprechen.

Selbst als Sebastian mobil wird, verzichtet er nie auf die Begleitung seines Freundes Speed Jazz Oskar. Obwohl Sebastian wieder an Lebensqualität gewinnt, bleibt er weiterhin launisch, muffig und misslaunig. Sebastian kämpft gegen alles, was ihm in seinem fanatischen Zwang nach Ordnung ein Gräuel ist.

Die Autorin begleitet Sebastian nicht nur augenzwinkernd in seiner Welt der Kleinbürgerlichkeit, sondern zeigt auch wie sein Lebensinteresse wieder erwacht und er an weltlichen Veränderungen und technischen Neuheiten Anteil nimmt. Diese liebenswürdigen Seiten von Sebastian kommen jedoch wegen seines extremen Ordnungszwangs und seinem Streben nach Dominanz nur exzentrisch und skurril zur Geltung. Mit einer kräftigen Portion an Humor zeigt die Autorin wie dieses doppeldeutige Verhalten zu grotesken aber auch Tier und Mensch gefährdenden Situationen führt. In seinem permanenten Bestreben seine Umgebung nach seinem Gutdünken zu gestalten, geht Sebastian letztlich sogar über Leichen.

An seiner Seite kein edles Pferd, sondern ein personifizierter Rollator, mit dem er sich auf die Reise begibt, vielleicht seine letzte, ohne zu wissen, wohin und wozu.

Der Rollatormann - eine komische und zugleich auch furchtbar traurige Figur, mit der man oder frau sich nur unfreiwillig identifizieren möchte.

Ingrid Bergner beschreibt die Figuren in ihrem Roman so wie sie sind und nicht, wie sie gern wären oder sein sollten, und das mit gnadenloser Genauigkeit.

Entstanden ist kein nettes, aber ein absolut gutes Buch mit viel Stoff zum Nachdenken, zum Beispiel über das Älterwerden, die Menschen und das allzu Menschliche, vielleicht auch über das Leben. Gleichzeitig bringt uns die Autorin aber auch immer wieder zum Schmunzeln, denn es gibt viele witzigen Passagen im Text sowie Ironie und Sprachwitz.Der Rollatormann liest sich leicht, ist aber in seiner Ambivalenz vielleicht nicht ganz so leicht zu verstehen, doch es zahlt sich aus, es zu versuchen. Ich finde den Roman jedenfalls sehr gelungen und freue mich schon auf weitere Werke der Autorin."
