Ecki 'Punk' Waussholz, Anfang Vierzig und seit fast zehn Jahren verheiratet, fühlt ein diffuses Unbehagen. Einstmals im Osten ein kompromissloser Oppositioneller, der sich trotz Spitzenabitur jahrelang als Hilfsarbeiter durchschlug, ist er nun ein kleiner Beamter im Außenministerium, der mit seiner Frau und zwei Kindern im Vorschulalter gerade aus Australien nach Deutschland zurück versetzt worden ist. Ein Familienvater in geordneten Verhältnissen also, der früher auch prekäre Zeiten durchlitten hat - bloß sollte er da nicht jetzt umso glücklicher sein? Immer wieder grübelt er über sein bisheriges Leben nach, über seine Schulzeit als schüchternes, hochbegabtes Kind, über die Jahre als Zuckerwatteverkäufer und in Abrisshäusern und schließlich seine Ausreise in den Westen. Aber vor allem träumt er mehr und mehr von außerehelichen sexuellen Kontakten, denn er möchte das, was er in seiner Jugend versäumt hat, nun endlich nachholen. Es kommt zur Trennung von seiner Frau und er beginnt, die Welt der Escort-Agenturen zu erkunden, wodurch sein Leben vollends aus den Fugen zu geraten droht. Stoisch plündert er sein Konto und lässt sich nun Abend für Abend Callgirls in sein Schlafzimmer kommen. Russische Studentinnen, junge Polinnen und Rumäninnen, Mädchen aus dem Baltikum, Deutsche. Nur die Verantwortung seinen Kindern gegenüber hält ihn noch davon ab, gänzlich in dieser Halbwelt zu versinken. Allerdings entstehen zu einigen der Mädchen sehr intensive Beziehungen, auch rein privat und an den Agenturen vorbei, was ihn in so manchen emotionalen Strudel stürzt. Doch schließlich beginnt er, die Dinge allmählich wieder neu zu ordnen. "Der Rappel" ist die Geschichte einer sexuellen Befreiung, aber darüber hinaus auch die Geschichte eines Mannes, der seine ganze bisherige Existenz auf den Prüfstand stellt und dabei Gefahr läuft, sich durch das verspätete Ausleben seiner Individualität komplett zu ruinieren. Der fiktive Name des Protagonisten Ecki 'Punk' Waussholz ist ein Anagramm,
About the Author: Mauerbau-Jahrgang 1961, aufgewachsen auf dem Dorf, im südlichen Berliner Umland, Abitur an einer Begabtenklasse der Humboldt-Uni in Ostberlin, danach Grundwehrdienst an der deutsch-deutschen Grenze und daraus resultierend die Annullierung seines Studienplatzes. Anschließend sieben Jahre Hilfsarbeiterjobs u.a. als Lagerarbeiter, Beifahrer, Forstarbeiter und in der geologischen Erkundung. Dabei kontinuierlich zunehmende oppositionelle Aktivitäten. Im Januar 1988 dann die Übersiedlung nach Westberlin, dort zunächst Rezeptionist in einer Jugendherberge. Seit 1992 Mitarbeiter des Auswärtigen Amtes, Auslandstätigkeiten u.a. in Portugal, Australien, Papua-Neuguinea, Russland und UK (London). "Der Rappel" ist seine zweite Veröffentlichung, nach "Zwei Tonnen Zuckerwatte" über seine Zeit als Zuckerwatteverkäufer auf Rummelplätzen in der früheren DDR.
