Forschungsarbeit aus dem Jahr 2014 im Fachbereich Geowissenschaften / Geographie - Bevölkerungsgeographie, Stadt- u. Raumplanung, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Hochwasserschutz und Deichbau haben aufgrund der Erfahrungen der Menschen an Elbe und Donau in den letzten Jahren eine große Bedeutung gewonnen. So ist es nur konsequent, dass auch die dafür am Rhein Verantwortlichen große Anstrengungen unternommen haben, gerade die bevölkerungsstarken Regionen in der Rheinschiene einschließlich der entsprechenden Gebäude und Anlagen vor den Überflutungsgefahren zu schützen. So wurde zuletzt im Großraum Düsseldorf für einen finanziellen Aufwand von rd. 17 Millionen Euro der Deich auf der linken Rheinseite im Übergang von Düsseldorf-Lörick zu Meerbusch-Büderich (Mönchenwerth) völlig erneuert. Der Verfasser nimmt dies zum Anlass, die erste selbständige Veröffentlichung über den linksrheinischen Düsseldorfer Deich vorzulegen. Dabei geht er historisch vor, indem er bis auf die Anfänge des Deichbaus, der Deichverordnungen und der Deichverbände zurückgeht. Ausführlich beschäftigt er sich mit dem Rheinhochwasser in den berühmten Krisenjahren 1784, 1795, 1920 und 1926 und erläutert, welche Maßnahmen u.a. auch in der Zeit der rd. 20jährigen Besetzung der linken Rheinlande während der Französischen Revolution und unter Napoleon ergriffen wurden. Des weiteren erläutert er wesentliche Eckpunkte der Deichgesetzgebung und -verwaltung in Preußen, im Deutschen Reich und in den Jahrzehnten nach dem II. Weltkrieg. Abschließend stellt er ein reiches Karten- und Bildmaterial zusammen, nennt akribisch alle benutzten Quellen, verweist detailliert auf die umfangreiche Literatur zur Thematik und druckt einige Vorschriften zum Deichrecht und Auszüge aus der Satzung des zuständigen Verbandes "Neue Deichschau Heerdt" ab.
