"He estado más de una vez en la cárcel. No soy un criminal, solamente he sido un número, un objeto de la represión natural que se da en toda ciudad moderna. El loco, el drogadicto, el borracho y el poeta, son los seres más sediciosos de la sociedad, porque en vez de ser productivos se dedican al ocio y al embrutecimiento para soportar una existencia en que la libertad es atacada por todos los flancos. He tratado de ejercer mi libertad de embriagarme y celebrar la vida con mis amigos en todos los bares y las cantinas de mi ciudad y de otras ciudades, y por eso me he visto en diversas situaciones: como peleas con otros poetas, borrachos, boxeadores y agentes de policía. Nunca he sido culpable totalmente, ni siquiera siento remordimiento en esas situaciones violentas. Si he violado la ley que nos rige, es porque yo no hice esa ley, y no la respeto de esa manera. Las ciudades nos oprimen y reducen la libertad del individuo al máximo. Todo esto es algo que nunca aceptaré, no estoy de acuerdo con el poeta Arthur Rimbaud cuando decía: los embrutecimientos tienen que hacerse fuera de las ciudades, no, tienen que hacerse adentro de las ciudades. Por desgracia me tocó vivir en un tiempo en el que los ideales ya no existen y nadie lucha por un mundo mejor, la mayoría solo busca la fama y el confort. Recuerdo que antes los poetas iban a la cárcel, porque tenían convicciones y luchaban contra regímenes totalitarios. Hoy la política nos ha dejado sin esperanza. Ya no podemos ir a la cárcel como fue Nazim Hikmet, Miguel Hernández, Yannis Ritsos, Roque Dalton, José Revueltas ni como terminó en la cárcel Oscar Wilde, Paul Verlaine, mucho menos nos recluirán como Ezra Pound en la cárcel o en el manicomio. Nuestra vida es muy diferente mientras los regímenes democráticos aseguran proporcionar mayor libertad al individuo. Los poetas nos sentimos más reprimidos, por eso tratamos de salirnos de la fila. Eso es lo que me ha enseñado la poesía, y estos poemas son producto de la experiencia del ejercicio de mi libertad como poeta".

Rubén Rivera García (Guasave, Sinaloa, México, 1962) es poeta y fotógrafo. Entre 1992 y 1996 estudio la licenciatura en lengua y literatura hispánicas en la Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa.

Es autor de los libros de poesía Cuerdas de mar (edición de autor, 1995); Flores y relámpagos (Cobaes-Navachiste, 1998); Al fuego de la panga (Praxis-DIFOCUR, 2001); Música de Cuatro espejos (Ediciones sin Nombre-DIFOCUR, 2006); La llama de los cuerpos (ISIC-Quirón, 2010); Fulgor del regreso (ISIC, 2012); Sewa yoleme (edición de autor, 2012); Caravana de Sombras (Fondo Editorial Estado de México, 2014); Sendero de Suicidas (Fondo de Cultura Económica, 2021).

Fue becario del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes en Poesía Jóvenes Creadores (FONCA, 1997-1998); obtuvo mención honorífica en el Segundo Concurso Nacional de Poesía Benemérito de las Américas de Oaxaca (1998); mención honorífica en el Certamen Internacional de Literatura Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (2013), en el género de poesía.

Recibió el Premio Interamericano de Poesía Navachiste (1997), el Premio Nacional de Poesía Clemencia Isaura Mazatlán (2000), el Premio Nacional de Poesía Timón de oro (2013) y el Premio Nacional Bellas Artes de Poesía Aguascalientes (2021).
