About the Book

Death On The Nile is a thrilling story of the sudden murder of a wealthy and beautiful woman on a Nile cruise and Hercule Poirot’s investigation of the same. Summary Of The Book Death On The Nile is one of Agatha Christie’s famed detective novels and was first published in the year 1937. The book talks about a sudden murder mystery on a Nile river cruise and the stepping in of famed Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot. The book is set in Egypt and the river Nile. Death On The Nile stands out for its portrayal of the gutsy young Jacqueline de Bellefort who loves her fiance intensely. Her father, Count de Bellefort, had abandoned her mother for another woman. Jacqueline was left penniless after her mother lost a huge sum in the Wall Street crash. She introduces her fiance Simon to her best friend, the wealthy and stunning Linnet Ridgeway. Simon cancels his engagement to Jacqueline after only three months and weds Linnet. Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot is on holiday aboard the river Nile cruise where he comes across this couple and their alleged stalker, Jacqueline. The book is peppered with accidents where Linnet and Simon narrowly escape from being hit by a boulder and Jacqueline shoots Simon in the leg in drunken rage. The story takes a turn when Colonel Race, a friend of Hercule Poirot, joins them for the return trip. He confides in Poirot about a dangerous criminal aboard the cruise. The problem lies in the fact that the criminal cannot be identified. Death On The Nile takes off from the sudden murder of Linnet and the various unsettling clues scattered about the cruise ship. The book has been adapted to radio shows, films, as well as computer games. About Agatha Christie Agatha Christie was a famed crime fiction writer and also wrote plays, novels and short stories.
