About the Book

Young convention organizer Zanna Armstrong is once again managing a huge conference and exhibition, this time in Washington, DC. Zanna has enlisted the aid of her sister Maddie, an accomplished artist and teacher. Maddie has attended many art events, and is familiar with the group, the Fine Art and Craft Association. Exhibit move-in is well underway when a fight breaks out among artists waiting to unload their exhibition material. The Armstrongs rush outside, to find that Canadian artist Pierre Luray has arrived with nude paintings of many prominent women, including the wives of at least two artists. Word spreads fast, and within hours, Luray is murdered, paintings slashed. Zanna is amazed to learn that her sister knew the artist rather too well. Did Maddie pose for Pierre? The police are called, and attractive Lieutenant Danny O'Neill heads the investigation. Zanna and Maddie rush to help police find the killer, but their primary concern is: The show must go on! Help soon arrives from home in WaterView, South Carolina, and from California. Armstrong parents Phil and Louisa have secured the aid of Sheriff Ray Wilson and their brother Beau, the boon companion of Zanna's youth. Dear friend Fred Daley has been transferred from San Francisco to manage their hotel in Washington. Despite the chaos, sessions must be organized and the exhibition opened. Zanna hasn't seen Ray since they all worked together in San Francisco a year ago. Does he still care for her? Will Maddie and Fred resume their friendship, and perhaps more? Visitors arrive from Montreal: Pierre's creepy brother, artist Claude, followed by terrified wife Valerie, who fears that Claude killed Pierre. Will she be next? Soon another convention participant is found dead, and Luray art vanishes. Join the Armstrongs and Danny O'Neill on a wild car chase to find the paintings.
About the Author: "Death at the Fine Art and Craft Convention" is Sara Elliott Sommerville's third Zanna Armstrong mystery. This novel is set in a large convention hotel in Washington, DC, Sara's home for many years. The previous novel, "Death of A Keynote Speaker" A Zanna Armstrong Hotel Mystery, was set at a medical convention, in a San Francisco hotel, another of the author's homes. Death of A Keynote Speaker was named a Notable Book of 2013 by Shelf Media. The first mystery, "Death at the Old Mill Pond" was loosely based on actual events, set near the author's family home in South Carolina. Sara Elliott Sommerville is well versed in huge conventions. She managed large conventions and trade shows, in New York, New Orleans, Montreal, Washington, San Francisco, Orlando, Atlanta; and overseas in England, Ireland and Scotland. Early in her career, Sara worked for both the San Francisco and New York Convention Bureaus. Sara Elliott Sommerville was named Author of the Year by CONVENE, Journal of Professional Conference Management Association, where she was International Editor and Columnist. She and her English husband John now live in Savannah with their two cats.
