About the Book

On a hot summer afternoon budding 15 year old basketball sensation, Joseph Miller, is savagely beaten then killed for his sneakers in the back of a Harlem park. The police are unable to solve the crime and the one person, Samantha Keyes, who witnessed the killing won't come forward because she is just too scared. As time goes by each of the remaining family members grow more and more frustrated with the police's inability to come up with a lead until finally they each secretly decide to take matters into their own hands. There is Joey's straight-laced and guilt-ridden older brother, Monterey, who can't forgive himself for not being there when his brother was murdered. Then we have Jonathan Miller, the boys' father, a now mellowed, yet still streetwise, old school bred brother who is trying desperately not to resort to his old ways; but this is being made very difficult by his best friend, Bruce Campbell. Bruce wants heads to roll and refuses to settle for anything less and the scary part is that he has the clout, power and financial means to make this happen. As for the culprits who committed the cowardly deed, Vincent Parker and Daizon Templeton, they are just bad through and through and to the core. Their utter disregard for human life and all it holds dear will leave you shaking your head in disgust and disbelief. Last but not least, we have Joey's former FBI agent of a mother, Quiara, whose past is the key to the present. For you see, Quiara had this one case that she worked which was so horrifying that she'd never forget it because she herself became a victim--a victim of a viciously violent sexual predator by the name of Lucas Howell. This attack took away her innocence and belief in mankind and it almost took her soul. It also did one other thing...it left her with child and what she does afterwards not only will haunt her for the rest of her life but will also come back to try and destroy the family she will have one day.\ As their investigations proceed, they each get closer and closer to finding out who the killer is and no one has any way of knowing that learning the identity of the murderer will change all of their lives forever! Deadly Secrets is a story about family, love, faith and revenge. Told in a way that will make you laugh, cry and want to strike out in fury at times, because the Miller family could easily be yours or mine and newcomer Malarie Mitchell has penned a plot that no one will soon forget!
About the Author: Malarie Mitchell is the author of "Deadly Secrets" (a.k.a "Big Mistake") and "Straight from the Street" (a.k.a. Giving Something Back) and she is currently working on her latest novel, "Love and Murder". When she's not working her 9-5 or writing, she loves to watch the old black and white horror movies (Karloff, Lugosi, Price and Lee). She is also a film noir fan from the same era. Malarie is a lifetime Harlem resident and in her stories she shares the plethora of locations, sights and people which make Harlem the perfect backdrop for drama, suspense, revenge and yes...even murder but you can also find an abundance of love here; all of which are necessary ingredients for successfully entertaining savvy readers. You may contact her at Malarie32@gmail.com.
