About the Book

The crisp June night in 2010 hung heavy over the sleepy town of Grinsby, Iowa. While most residents slumbered, three restless teenagers - Jeremy, 14, Evelyn, 15, and Daniel, 14 - crept out into the darkness, lured by the thrill of adventure. Their destination: an abandoned house at the end of Amhurst Road, a place shrouded in mystery and urban legends.

As they approached the dilapidated structure, an eerie silence enveloped them. The floorboards creaked beneath their feet as they entered, their flashlight beams cutting through the musty air. At first glance, it seemed like any other forsaken dwelling, but a peculiar door leading to the cellar piqued their curiosity.

As the night grew long, Evelyn's voice of reason prevailed, reminding them of the consequences of being caught out so late. Reluctantly, they agreed to return home, but Jeremy's fascination with the safe lingered.

The following day, Jeremy confided in his friends his plan to sneak back and attempt to open the safe, armed with new ideas. However, Evelyn and Daniel, perhaps wiser from their previous escapade, declined to join him. Fueled by an insatiable curiosity, Jeremy ventured out alone into the night, never to return.

A frantic search ensued, with the town's residents and authorities scouring every inch of Grinsby, but Jeremy had vanished without a trace. Evelyn's revelation about the safe in the abandoned house's basement led searchers there, only to find no basement, no door, and no safe - just a decrepit, one-story structure.

As the years ticked by, Jeremy's disappearance remained an unsolved mystery. A decade later, in 2020, Evelyn and Daniel, now adults with families of their own, crossed paths on a warm summer day. Amid their casual conversation, a familiar figure approached - a boy unmistakably Jeremy, frozen in time at 14 years old and wearing the same clothes from the night he vanished.

Overjoyed yet perplexed, Evelyn and Daniel struggled to comprehend how their long-lost friend remained untouched by the passage of time. Jeremy, oblivious to the decade that had elapsed, failed to recognize his now-aged companions.

In a heart-stopping climax, as Jeremy accompanied Evelyn across the bustling Benger Street, an out-of-control truck hurtled towards them. With selfless bravery, Jeremy pushed Evelyn to safety, taking the full impact of the collision. In that moment, the cosmic scales were balanced, and Jeremy's tragic demise rewrote the past.

News reports from a decade earlier now reflected Jeremy's fate - struck by a truck while walking home that fateful night, his mother spared from her untimely end. As the last vestiges of the supernatural event faded, Evelyn and Daniel found themselves standing before Jeremy's gravestone, their memories of his miraculous return erased, leaving only the familiar ache of a life cut short and a decade of mourning in its wake.
