En este segundo volumen del proyecto El nacionalismo vasco y Navarra, que sigue a Biografía no autorizada del PNV, su autor estudia en apretada síntesis la poliédrica historia de la organización terrorista ETA: desde sus orígenes en la órbita del PNV a su protagonismo político hoy. De ahí que sea abordada tan asombrosa constelación de entidades de todo tipo, que viene organizando la autodenominada izquierda abertzale, con la férrea voluntad que le caracteriza, y siempre volcada en la consecución de la independencia y la implantación del socialismo en nombre del pueblo vasco.
ETA ya no mata, efectivamente, pero las secuelas individuales y sociales derivadas de varias décadas de terror perduran en muchos de sus más íntimos mecanismos sociales, marcando patológicamente la sociología actual del País Vasco y de Navarra.
Por otra parte, el creciente fenómeno de una izquierda abertzale disidente autodenominada proletaria, en evidente ruptura con sus mayores, exige un esfuerzo continuo de memoria y análisis que no pierda de vista la naturaleza y raíces de aquel fenómeno tendencialmente terrorista, así como sus mitos, sus principales características mantenidas a lo largo del tiempo, las complicidades que ganó, y sus derivas y expresiones colectivas. De ahí que se le dediquen espacios a la Marcha de la libertad, su controvertida posición frente a las drogas, el denominado feminismo abertzale, la instrumentalización del movimiento por la insumisión, los grupos terroristas que siguieron su ejemplo y otras expresiones colectivas de aquellas décadas de profundas convulsiones.
De tal modo, por estas apretadas páginas desfilan los principales fundadores de ETA y figuras posteriores: TxabiEtxebarrieta, Arnaldo Otegi, Iosu Abrisketa, Mikel Albisu, la tristemente célebre María Dolores González Catarain, Yoyes, Jesús María Zabarte Arregui, carnicero de Mondragón, Mikel Albisu, David Pla Martín y tantos otros.
También se recupera la memoria de algunos de los colectivos humanos particularmente golpeados por la banda terrorista, caso de los funcionarios de prisiones, la Ertzaintza, o los vascos tradicionalistas, de centro-derecha, y falangistas, asesinados a causa de su profesión o ideales.
Como marco para todo ello se parte de una cronología de ETA y la izquierda abertzale, especialmente en su expresión partidaria, con particular consideración de sus numerosas facciones, giros tácticos y su declive como banda armada, hasta la presentación de 44 de terroristas declarados en las listas electorales de EH Bildu en las elecciones municipales y autonómicas de 28 de mayo de 2023.
Este trabajo presenta, desde una visión integradora, global y con algunos apuntes autobiográficos, la continuidad humana y estratégica de una ETA metamorfoseada en Sortu y EH Bildu, sin reservas ni concesiones.
