Dies macht deutlich, dass zur Sicherung des langfristigen Unternehmenserfolges das Vertriebscontrolling eine wesentliche Schlüsselrolle einnimmt. Um das Management jedoch aktiv durch geeignete Methoden und Informationsbereitstellung bei der Strategiefindung und -umsetzung unterstützen zu können, ist ein gut strukturiertes Vertriebsinformationssystem für das Vertriebscontrolling unabdingbar. Nur mit Hilfe moderner Informationstechnik (IT) wie z.B. den Methoden des Data Minings können Auswertungen erstellt werden, die das Management in die Lage versetzen, notwendige Entscheidungen kurzfristig und effizient zu treffen, um das Unternehmen in die richtige Richtung steuern zu können. Ohne die Unterstützungsleistung der IT bei der Informationserfassung, -verarbeitung und -bereitstellung wäre ein effektives Vertriebscontrolling undenkbar.
