Chinesische Philosophie des 16. Jahrhunderts - diese Studie schliesst eine Lucke in der westlichen Philosophiegeschichtsschreibung! Iso Kerns Studie beleuchtet die Kultur und die geistigen Stromungen der chinesischen Philosophie der spaten Ming-Dynastie in beispielloser Ausfuhrlichkeit und Deutlichkeit. Damit schliesst sich eine in der westlichen Philosophiegeschichtsschreibung seit langer Zeit bedauerte Lucke. Im Zentrum stehen die philosophischen Diskussionen, wie sie im China des 16. Jahrhunderts uber die praktischen Moglichkeiten eines wahren und glucklichen ethischen Lebens gefuhrt wurden. Ausloser dieser Gesprache war der neben Zhu Xi (1130-1200) wohl bedeutendste chinesische Philosoph der letzten 500 Jahre, Wang Yangming (1472-1529, auch bekannt unter dem Namen Wang Shouren). Die von Wang Yangming initiierte Debatte setzte sich uber viele Generationen seiner Schuler fort und liegt auch heute noch dem lebendigsten eigenstandigen chinesischen Philosophieren zugrunde. Es geht in diesen Diskussionen aber weniger um moralische Gesetze oder Regeln als vielmehr um die psychischen Quellen und Krafte, die ein ethisch gutes Leben moglich machen. Solche Krafte sind spontane Gefuhle wie das Mitgefuhl, aber auch das Gewissen (das moralische Bewusstsein), die Versenkung in die Stille, die geistige Sammlung im Handeln, das Vertrauen und die 'Einsicht' in den 'Grund' des eigenen 'Herzens'. Das Ideal des guten ethischen Lebens ist in diesen sich auf Konfuzius berufenden Diskussionen vor allem charakterisiert durch ein Handeln aus wahrem Mitgefuhl ('Menschlichkeit'), das trotz sozialem Engagement in einer inneren Ruhe und Festigkeit geschieht.
About the Author: Der Autor Iso Kern, 1937 in Bern geboren, promovierte 1961 mit einer Studie uber Husserl und Kant (Den Haag, 1964, 2. Aufl. 1984) in Lowen. Danach edierte er aus Edmund Husserls Nachlass drei Bande uber die Phanomenologie der Intersubjektivitat (Den Haag 1973), bevor er sich 1973 an der Universitat Heidelberg mit einer Schrift uber Idee und Methode der Philosophie. Leitgedanken fur eine Theorie der Vernunft (Berlin 1974) habilitierte, wo er von 1974 bis 1979 lehrte. Von 1979 bis 1984 studierte er an der Universitat Taiwan in Taipei, an den Universitaten Nanking und Peking sowie an der Columbia University in New York chinesische Philosophie. Von 1984 bis 2006 unterrichtete er als Titular- und Gastprofessor an den Universitaten Bern, Freiburg und Zurich europaische und chinesische Philosophie. Er veroffentlichte in dieser Zeit verschiedene Bucher und Artikel uber das Verhaltnis zwischen europaischer und chinesischer Philosophie und uber phanomenologische Fragen.
