Was heute zu beklagen ist, ist die Distanz, die zwischen der Philosophie und dem Leben besteht. Das Sokratische Gespräch in der heutigen Form hat zum Ziel, diese Distanz zu verringern. Das Ziel ist demnach ein pragmatisches: die enge Anbindung der Theorie an die Praxis und umgekehrt. Darauf werde ich im zweiten Kapitel bei der Behandlung des Erfahrungsprozesses im So- kratischen Gespräch ausführlicher eingehen. Ziel bei der Durchführung von Sokratischen Gesprächen ist die Klärung von Begriffen, die jeder Mensch im Alltag gebraucht, ohne sich darüber Re- chenschaft zu geben. Sokrates nannte diese unbedacht gebrauchten Begriffe "Windeier". Die im Sokratischen Gespräch neubestimmten Begriffe sind Maßstäbe für die Analyse realer Verhältnisse. Diese Maßstäbe können mehr Sicherheit bei alltäglichen Einschätzungen geben und ein besseres Zurecht- finden im Alltag ermöglichen. Neben der sachlich-explikativen Klärung eines Begriffs hatte der sokrati- sch-platonische Dialog ein weiteres Ziel, das ich im ersten Abschnitt des er- sten Kapitels ausführlicher behandeln werde: Während die Sophisten - wie es Sokrates im Dialog "Gorgias" vorführte - ihre eigene Meinung durchzuset- zen strebten, indem sie geschickt redeten und überredeten, kam es Sokrates auf die Bildung einer moralischen Haltung im theoretischen Dialog an. Die Menschen sollten fähig werden, mit anderen zu kommunizieren und ihre ei- gene Meinung zu korrigieren. Kurz: Die Kommunikationskultur sollte ver- bessert werden. Dialogprinzip war die Anerkennung der Gleichwertigkeit und das Ernstnehmen aller Gesprächspartner. In den Sokratischen Dialogen der Antike, an die Leonard Nelson 1922 anschließt, kamen demnach prakti- sche und theoretische Intentionen zur Deckung.
