Der Erste Weltkrieg gehört zu den einschneidensten Ereignissen der deutschen und der europäischen Geschichte. Er gilt als der erste 'totale' Krieg und stellt zweifelsohne einen Wendepunkt in der Geschichte medialer Kriegsführung und propagandistischer Beeinflussung dar. Neben einer wahre[n] Flut von literarischen Reflexionen - als Reaktion auf den Krieg von Schriftstellern und anderen Intellektuellen hervorgebracht - veränderte sich mehr oder weniger schlagartig auch der Umgang mit Musik in Konzert und journalistischer Betrachtung. Mit Ausnahme der Popularmusik-Forschung zählt der Erste Weltkrieg in der Musikwissenschaft jedoch immer noch, besonders im Vergleich zum 'Dritten Reich' und zum Zweiten Weltkrieg, zu den wenig erforschten Gebieten. Dies ist insbesondere angesichts der Erkenntnisse über die Formen und Mittel der Propaganda im ausgehenden Kaiserreich erstaunlich, gehört doch aus heutiger Sicht gerade die Musik zweifelsohne zu den einfachsten Möglichkeiten medialer Beeinflussung. Die vorliegende Studie soll einen Beitrag zur Aufarbeitung dieser musikwissenschaftlichen Lücke leisten.
About the Author: Jens Christian Peitzmeier, Jahrgang 1985, erlernte bereits zu Grundschulzeiten das Orgelspiel. Es folgte das C-Examen für nebenamtliche Kirchenmusiker im Alter von 14 Jahren. Er studierte Musik und Germanistik für das Lehramt an Gymnasien an der Universität Osnabrück mit den künstlerischen Fächern Orgel (Wiltrud Fuchs, Carsten Zündorf), Gesang (Sigrid Heidemann) und Horn (Heiko Maschmann). Chorleitungsunterricht erhielt er bei Joachim Siegel. Zahlreiche Konzertreisen führten ihn schon in jungen Jahren durch die nördliche Bundesrepublik. Interpretations- und Meisterkurse besuchte Jens Christian Peitzmeier bei Harald Vogel, Wolfgang Schäfer, Gerd-Peter Münden, Friederike Woebcken und Markus Utz. Er war weiterhin Gründer und künstlerischer Leiter des Frauenchors der Universität Osnabrück. Darüber hinaus arbeitete er während des Studiums viele Jahre als wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft und Dozent für Klavier, Partitur- und Generalbassspiel. Seine wissenschaftliche Examensarbeit befasst sich wie einige andere musikhistorische Forschungen Peitzmeiers mit Musik im Spannungsfeld von Krieg und Frieden. Das Referendariat im Schuldienst absolviert er im Studienseminar Meppen und am Städtischen Gymnasium Nordhorn. Seit seiner frühen Jugend ist Jens Christian Peitzmeier nebenberuflich als Kirchenmusiker tätig, seit 2010 u.a. als künstlerischer Leiter der Lutherischen Kantorei Nordhorn.
