In diesem Band zeigt Stefan Morent den Einfluss der Rezeption mittelalterlicher Musik auf das kompositorische Schaffen in Frankreich ab der zweiten Halfte des 19. Jahrhunderts, vor allem bei der jungeren Komponistengeneration um Gabriel Faure, Claude Debussy und Erik Satie. Er nimmt sich damit des forschungsgeschichtlichen Desiderats nach einer Aufarbeitung der Dialektik von Progressive und Retrospektive in der Kompositionsgeschichte in Frankreich im 19. Jahrhundert an. Methodisch geht der Autor uber die Beobachtung allgemeiner kulturgeschichtlicher Stromungen hinaus, indem er Rezeptionsphanomene in der kompositorischen Struktur selbst belegt und den Anteil des spezifisch Mittelalterlichen profiliert.

Neben der Analyse des musikasthetischen und musiktheoretischen Diskurses steht der Nachweis der Auswirkungen auf die Kompositionsgeschichte anhand ausgewahlter Werke im Mittelpunkt der Arbeit. Geklart wird auch, welche Rolle die Institutionen zur Vermittlung des neuerwachten Interesses an mittelalterlicher Musik spielen - wie das Kloster Solesmes, die Ecole Niedermeyer und die Schola Cantorum in Paris.


About the Author: Stefan Morent studierte Musikwissenschaften und Informatik an der Universitat Tubingen, Blockflote und Historische Auffuhrungspraxis bei Kees Boeke sowie Musik des Mittelalters bei Andrea von Ramm und Sterling Jones. 1995 Promotion. 2004 Habilitation als Stipendiat des Graduiertenkollegs "Ars und Scientia im Mittelalter und der fruhen Neuzeit". Seit 2008 dort ausserplanmassiger Professor. Er leitete ein u.a. von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft gefordertes Forschungsprojekt zur "Musikinformatik". Zahlreiche Veroffentlichungen zur Auffuhrungspraxis des Mittelalters sowie Einladungen als Gastdozent und Referent bei Akademien, Hochschulen, Festivals und internationalen Kongressen und Symposien in Europa, USA und Australien. Er lehrte ausserdem in Trossingen, Wien, Hamburg, Detmold und Koln und folgte 2010 einer Einladung als Visiting Professor an die University of Berkeley/USA. Seither Lehrstuhl- und Professurvertretungen in Heidelberg, Saarbrucken und Paderborn/Detmold. Er ist kunstlerischer Leiter des Festivals fur Musik des Mittelalters "Via Mediaeval" in Rheinland-Pfalz und hat mit dem von ihm gegrundeten Ensemble "Ordo Virtutum" fur Musik des Mittelalters eine umfangreiche internationale Konzerttatigkeit mit zahlreichen preisgekronten CD-Produktionen entfaltet.
