Die These vom Ende des Zeitalters der Kulturen hat zwei Pr�ssen zur Voraussetzung. Erstens gehen wir davon aus, dass alle Kulturen der Welt ihren Ursprung in Religion haben; die Religion ist das Prim�, aus der sich die Kultur entwickelt (Der Begriff Kultur von lat. cultus deutet darauf hin). Jede Kultur bleibt stets als Ganzes sowie in ihren jeweiligen Erscheinungen (Kulturg�tern) auf die Religion zur�ckbezogen und wird durch sie gepr� (so wie die abendl�ische Kultur durch das Christentum gepr� ist). Die zweite Pr�sse ergibt sich aus der ersten: Wahre Kulturg�ter haben stets einen transzendenten Hintergrund, d.h. sie weisen �ber die vordergr�ndige Welt auf eine andere, h�here Welt hinaus. Diese Transzendenz muss nicht unmittelbar auf G�ttliches verweisen, sondern auch wenn z.B. ein Werk der Dichtkunst das Allgemeinmenschliche in den Mittelpunkt stellt oder wenn eine Komposition durch Harmonie bestimmt ist, liegt Transzendenz vor, da die Andeutung idealer Werte oder der Vollkommenheit transzendentalen Charakter aufweist. Hingegen f�t z.B. blo� Gesellschaftsanalyse oder das blo� Experimentieren mit Materie und Form nicht unter den Kulturbegriff. Seit ungef� 200 Jahren haben Technisierung und Globalisierung eine zunehmende Entfremdung von Religion und Kultur bewirkt, so dass wir heute nicht mehr in einem kulturellen, sondern in einem zivilisatorischen Zeitalter leben. Der Mensch entwickelt sich vom religi�sen zum nichtreligi�sen Wesen; war die allgemeine Grundhaltung im 18. Jahrhundert noch durch Fr�mmigkeit, also Gottesgl�igkeit, bestimmt, so ist sie im 20. Jahrhundert eher durch Fortschrittsgl�igkeit bestimmt. Wir leben heutzutage in einer grunds�lich anderen Gesellschaft mit einer anderen Weltauffassung. Der Einschnitt in die Geschichte der Menschheit ist �lich gro�wie der zu Beginn des kulturellen Zeitalters, welches durch das Sesshaftwerden bedingt ist. Ursachen und Folgen sowie Bedeutungszusammenh�e des angedeuteten Ph�mens werden in diesem Buch er�rtert.
About the Author: Werner Krumbholz, 1940 in Essen an der Ruhr geboren, studierte an der Universität Bochum Germanistik, Geschichte und Kunstgeschichte. Die Auseinandersetzung mit der abendländischen Kunst führte ihn nach Italien; während eines mehrjährigen Romaufenthaltes befaßte er sich mit italienischer Sprache und Literatur sowie mit antiker und italienischer Kunst. Die italienische Kultur wurde zu seinem geistigen Lebensraum; aber auch zahlreiche Reisen in verschiedene Länder Europas konfrontierten ihn mit der abendländischen Vergangenheit und der europäischen Gegenwart. Seit 1999 lebt er als Buchautor in München und veröffentlichte u.a. Das 20. Jahrhundert. Eine gesellschaftskritische Betrachtung auf dem Hintergrund der abendländischen Kultur (2004).
