Man unterschied nicht nur biologisch zwischen Mann und Frau, sondern auch zwischen den verschiedenen psychischen und physischen Voraussetzungen. In vielen Forschungsgebieten - vor allem in der Pädagogik - beschäftigt man sich seit Jahren mit dem Geschlecht. Gender, wie es im Fachjargon heißt. Dieses ist jedoch nicht nur auf das biologische Geschlecht (sex) reduzierbar, beziehungsweise damit vergleichbar. Häufig wird Gender konstruiert und es kommt in verschiedenen Bereichen zur Stereotypisierung von Geschlecht. Gender ist somit das sozial konstruierte Geschlecht. Dies bedeutet, dass sich Gender nicht an eindeutig festlegbaren Merkmalen, wie zum Beispiel Physiologie oder Habitus festmachen lässt, sondern im Gegenteil, ein Teil der Genderforschung bestreitet einen Zusammenhang zwischen Gender und sex. Deshalb geht es vielmehr darum, wie und in welcher Form Menschen Gender ausleben. Dieser Prozess ist individuell und wird vom äußeren Umfeld der Person z.B. durch Familie, Freunde, Institutionen usw. geprägt. Da sich verschiedene Studien mit Kindermedien, deren Einfluss und Einsatz in der Schule beschäftigt haben, möchte ich in der folgenden Arbeit vor allem auf die Medien Kinderfernsehen und Bilderbücher eingehen, da diese Medien im Kindesalter am meisten genutzt werden und somit den größten Einfluss haben. An den Beispielen soll die Stereotypisierung des weiblichen Geschlechts untersucht werden. Vor allem die starke Rollenteilung zwischen Mann und Frau und die Art der Darstellung von Frauen sollen fokussiert werden. Durch sogenannte Hypersexualisierung wird das optische Frauenbild und somit konstruierte Frauenideal in Medien verstärkt.
