Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der Psychiater und Schriftsteller Bruno Alfred Döblin hat mit dem 1929 erschienenen Roman "Berlin Alexanderplatz" seinen erfolgreichsten Text geschrieben. Das Werk gilt als einer der Schlüsseltexte der deutschen Moderne. Erzählt wird die Geschichte des Transportarbeiters Franz Biberkopf, der zu Beginn des Romans aus dem Gefängnis entlassen wird und als ehrlicher Mann im Berlin der Weimarer Republik in ein anständiges Leben zurückfinden will. Dieser "Roman der Stimmen", dessen Figuren allesamt Außenseiter der bürgerlichen Gesellschaft sind, ist ein Ausdruck des Innenlebens benachteiligter Schichten, das in der Literatur häufig nur schwer zur Sprache findet. Die erste Figur, der Biberkopf nach der Entlassung aus dem Gefängnis zu Beginn des Romans begegnet, ist der Jude Nachum, der den verstörten Fremden in die Wohnung eines Rabbiners bringt. Eine Untersuchung des Themas Antisemitismus in den Werken Alfred Döblins mag auf den ersten Blick überraschend erscheinen, da der Autor selbst in einer jüdischen Familie aufgewachsen ist, vor den Nazis ins Exil flüchten musste und seine Bucher während der Nazizeit gar zur verbotenen Literatur gehörten. Döblins Biographie zeigt jedoch, dass eine Definition bzw. Identifikation als "Jude" seitens der Gesellschaft nicht zwangsläufig eine ebensolche Selbstidentifikation voraussetzt oder nach sich zieht: Döblin spürte zu dem Judentum nie eine tiefe Verbindung, trat sehr früh aus der jüdischen Gemeinde aus und konvertierte später zum Katholizismus. Nichtsdestotrotz spielte das Judentum in seiner Biographie eine nicht zu unterschätzende Rolle, da die gesellschaftlichen Rahmenbedingungen sowohl für sein Leben weitreichende physische Konsequenzen hatten, von denen die Flucht ins amerikanische Exil nur die auffälligste ist, als auch eine innere Auseinandersetzung mit seiner eigenen Identität forderten.
