When a little girl living in a parallel, pastoral world is mistakenly teleported by a group of college graduate students to New York City, a young hunter from her world is sent to track her down. In a race against time, he must cope with the bewildering modern culture we live in to find, rescue and ultimately return her home. When he arrives in Times Square during the busy lunch hour, he is in shock: In his hurried preparations for his visit to Earth, he relied on the latest information from Earth that was available from his fathers last visit in 1864. Instead of horses there are noisy cars and buses. No telegraph -- instead, cellphones. And television! He was taught by his father that computers were people who worked with numbers. Much to his surprise the meaning of the word has changed. Things get wilder and wilder as in his travels he rescues a teenage girl, makes friends with an Irish setter, and meets up with the students who teleported her to earth, resulting in an unexpected, thrilling climax!

About the Author

Let me explain: I grew up a little differently than most people. In the summertime, we lived on our family owned island, with no electricity, no phone, no flush toilet, no running water, no telephone, no refrigeration, no heat other than fire, no electric lights (we used kerosene lanterns) and no TV or radio. My mother cooked our meals on a tiny stove powered by a propane tank. We bathed in the river, swam in the river, fished from the river, sailed and boated on the river, washed our clothes by hand in the river. It was Heaven. When summer was over, we dreaded going back to so-called civilization. I went on to do many things in my life, but those early years of primitive living are still with me. And thats what sparked the idea for this book -- humanitys ever increasing separation from Nature: we live in boxes, travel in boxes, and watch boxes. Few of us experience the daily reality of living outdoors -- the backdrop of lapping waves, the rustle of wind in the leaves, passing shadows of clouds, the calls of gulls, even the misery of rain all day long with nothing to do but use ones imagination.
