About the Author: María Gabriela Madrid estudió Educación en la Universidad Metropolitana de Caracas-Venezuela, Escritura Creativa e Inglés en Harvard University, Bostón University y Columbia University. Madrid obtuvo Diploma y Mención de Honor en un Concurso de Poesía y Narrativa en Florida-Estados Unidos, otorgado por el alcalde de Miami, Carlos Álvarez. En el 2011 recibió el premio "Mujer Escritora del Año 2011" otorgado por el representante de la alcaldesa de Houston, Anisse Parker. En el 2010, Madrid dio una video-conferencia donde el tema a tratar fue Chicanismo (movimiento político, cultural y social y la identidad chicana en el arte y la literatura).
