About the Book

Eighth in 'The Manhattan Stories' by Wall Street Journal Top 10 Best Selling author, Donna Foley Mabry, Dan Curran Quinn - The Manhattan Stories: The Currans, Book Four continues the saga of the Curran Family.

After a romance that started when he was still in high school, Dan Curran Quinn marries his longtime love, Kathleen O'Malley. They begin their lives together with a bright future, but a vengeful killer from Dan's past has other plans.

When every dream he ever had is shattered, Dan is unable to recover. Restless, he sets out to ride horseback across the vanishing frontier from Manhattan, Kansas to the little town of Goodland near the Colorado border. Along the way, Dan encounters dangers, hunger, thirst, desperate people, and situations that teach him what kind of man he is--and what kind of man he wants to be.

About the Author: At 60, Donna thought she was gearing down for retirement when a phone call from Las Vegas sent her life spinning off in a completely different direction. In her working life, Donna has many hats. She has been an Avon Lady, a business manager, a watercolor artist, and the manager of the art section in a local department store, but the hat she wore the longest was that of a seamstress. When she was five years old, her father gave her a red and white Singer sewing machine for Christmas. It was powered by turning a little wheel on the side, it really sewed, and it was just what the little girl wanted. Somehow, Mabry says, she already knew how to make simple dresses for her dolls. Over the years, her machines included an old foot-treadle powered White, then her first electric, another Singer, with a cast-iron body that was so heavy she couldn't lift it by herself. When her children were small, she supplemented the family income by working at home, making clothes and doing alterations for wealthy women . When the family moved to Florida, her daughter, Melanie, was fifteen and immediately became involved with the Venice Little Theatre. Soon, the whole family was spending their free time there. Husband Lonnie acted and helped with props, son David acted and did lights. The costume designer, Joan Dillon, taught Donna the finer points of costume construction. Over the years, Donna sewed, acted, and performed various other duties at the theatre, and her daughter went on to study acting and dance at USF and became a professional actor. That led both of them to Las Vegas. Melanie came first, working as a singer/dancer for about a year, then deciding to settle down. She went into marketing, starting at the Sahara, then working her way up to Director of Entertainment at Harrah's. While she was working there, Melanie persuaded her boss to hire her mother to make costumes. Melanie introduced Donna to her friends and workmates, colorful people to say the least. They set her up to work in the corner of the showgirl's dressing room and it wasn't long before she was making notes on the stories she heard and the people she met. That led to her first novel, The Last Two Aces in Las Vegas. It also changed the direction of her life. As Olympia Dukakis says in 'Moonstruck, ' "It ain't over, til it's over."
