Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Die konventionelle Anbauform bei Zuckerrüben ist der Flachanbau. Einige Versuche Zuckerrüben in Dämmen zu kultivieren, die hauptsächlich seit 1999 durch Landwirte im Raum Dithmarschen durchgeführt wurden, wiesen auf Mehrerträge hin. Es ergaben sich sowohl im Versuchsanbau wie auch im Praxisanbau Ertragsvorteile zwischen 10 und 20 %, bezogen auf den Rübenertrag im Vergleich zu dem sonst praxisüblichen Flachanbau, bei gleicher Rübenqualität. Derzeit werden in Schleswig-Holstein etwa 500 ha Zuckerrüben im Dammverfahren kultiviert. Auf die ersten Versuchsaktivitäten mit Dammrüben der ARGE Worms in den 80er Jahren folgten in den letzten Jahren weitere Anbauversuche durch Landwirte und Arbeitsgruppen sowie verschiedene Firmen. Unter anderem sind hier zu nennen die ARGE Nord (2003), Pfeiffer&Langen sowie die Saatzucht Strube-Dieckmann, die bereits seit 2002 Versuche zu diesem Thema durchführt. Auffällig bei den bisherigen Anbauergebnissen sind die sehr unterschiedlichen Resultate hinsichtlich Ertrag und Qualität. So wurden bei Strube-Dieckmann im Jahre 2002 Mehrerträge, bezogen auf den Bereinigten Zuckerertrag, von bis zu 7,5 % erzielt. Im Jahr 2003 konnten allerdings keine signifikanten Ertragsunterschiede zwischen Zuckerrüben in Dammkultur und Flachanbau festgestellt werden. Ziel der Zuckerrübenanbauer ist es natürlich einen möglichst hohen Zuckerertrag, eine hohe Qualität und einen hohen Deckungsbeitrag zu erzielen. Viele Faktoren spielen bei der Ertragsbildung und der Qualität der Zuckerrübe eine Rolle. Einer der wichtigsten Einflussfaktoren ist die Jugendentwicklung. Hohe Frühjahrsniederschläge und Frühjahrskühle haben negative Auswirkungen auf die Entwicklung. Im Gemüseanbau, vor allem im Möhrenanbau, ist die Dammkultur durch Vorteile wie schnelle Bodenerwärmung und gute Abtrocknung des Saatbettes die praxisübliche Anbauform. Daher lag die Idee des Anbaus von Zuckerrüben in Dammkultur nahe. Positive Wirkung auf die Ertragsbildung
