El tiempo les ha proporcionado incluso más categoría de la que tuvieron en vida y tanto sus libros, como sus películas, son objeto de revisión por aficionados y críticos.Woody Allen es el intelectual, el escritor y el filósofo, el mordaz y quien mejor sabe burlarse de las debilidades y defectos humanos. No son sus modos de actuar los que pro-vocan la risa y en ocasiones ni siquiera sus cortos chistes, sino sus conclusiones y comentarios, tan acertados que podrían haber sido escritos por el mismísimo Platón, y todo ello con el mejor sentido del humor conocido.De Cantinflas tampoco hay mucho que explicar, pues su verborrea atropellada ha sido imitada por miles de cómicos del mundo entero, lo mismo que sus andares y modos de vestir, aunque esto último sea solamente un esbozo. Es el más sencillo de todos, el cómico del pueblo, pero no por ello el menos inteligente ni el peor; solamente es uno de ellos.Pero junto a estos actores ya clásicos, los espectadores consiguen esbozar con frecuencia una sonrisa y hasta soltar una estruendosa carcajada con intérpretes como Billy Crystal, un estupendo actor y presentador quien, además, posee grandes cualidades como literato, pues sus guiones están dotados de inteligencia y humor al alcance de todos los espectadores. No menos importante es el binomio imposible de cubrir entre Jack Lemmon y Walter Matthau, tan lejanos y al mismo tiempo tan cercanos a Dean Martin y Jerry Lewis que nos hace creer en la posibilidad de un matrimonio social entre dos hombres, incluso aunque aparentemente se odien. Igualmente y si bien ahora hayan tomado cada uno cami-nos diferentes, los miembros del grupo Monty Python (John Cleese, Terry William y Terry Jones, principalmente), tienen que tener un lugar de privilegio en un libro sobre el cine cómico, lo mismo que Charles Chaplin, tan mudo que parece imposible que fuera capaz de tener ese humor tan infantil que mostraba en sus filmes. También hablaremos de Jim Carrey, gesticulante y osado que le ha hecho convertirse en uno de los cómicos preferidos de los jóvenes, así como de su inspirador Jerry Lewis, una leyenda cuyos antiguos filmes merece la pena revisar. Y qué decir de ese inglés llamado Rowan Atkinson, más conocido como Mr. Bean, que con sus dotes de mímico ha conseguido un lugar de honor en la televisión y ahora en el cine, en donde incluso ha ejercido de agente secreto, lo mismo que hace Mike Myers, el popular Austin Powers. ¿Quién nos queda? Muchos, especialmente hispanos, algunos de ellos descritos o reseñados en este libro, demasiados para incluirlos a todos con la dignidad que se merecen.
