About the Author: Tom Magrini is the author of 4 books in the Customizing OS X series, which teach Mac users to completely customize their OS X experience with hundreds of tweaks, hacks, secret commands, and hidden features. Tom's books teach Mac users how to customize OS X to give their Macs their own unique and personal look and feel. Tom is an information technology professional with over 30 years experience as an engineer and senior manager. He has worked with Macs since 1984 and still fondly remembers his first Apple Macintosh computer with its 8 MHz Motorola 68000 processor, 9-inch 512 x 342 pixel black-and-white screen, 128 kB of RAM, and built-in 400 kB 31/2 inch floppy drive. Tom also worked with NeXT computers and the NeXTStep operating system, the forerunner to Apple's OS X. And yes, Tom has crossed over to the dark side and has worked extensively with Windows-based PCs. During the work week, Tom is a busy IT director, leading a team of IT professionals who maintain two data centers and the network, telephony, server, storage, operating systems, and security infrastructure for a large city. Tom has taught programming, operating systems, Cisco Networking Academy, and wireless technology courses as a Computer Information Systems professor at two colleges. He has worked for numerous technology companies including SynOptics Communications, Bay Networks, FORE Systems, 3Com, and Cisco Systems, Inc. When Tom isn't working on his MacBook Pro or hanging out with his family and dogs, he enjoys reading, movies, writing, and the beautiful Arizona weather with its 300 days of sunshine.
