Where would the world be without curiosity?
It would certainly be a much different place. Without innovative individuals constantly challenging the status quo, the world would be at a standstill. Scientists, inventors, engineers, and other professions would cease to exist.
As an engineer and a parent herself, Ann M. De Vries understands the importance of identifying and nurturing curiosity in the next generation. Her new guide shows you how to respond when your children begin taking an interest in the world around them. She uses anecdotes from her own life to teach you important lessons about parenting and teaching. With innovative exercises tailored to specific age groups, she shows you how to
- create your own stories to entertain and inform,
- use games to interest your children in art and other media,
- identify and encourage their own unique interests,
- develop your children's reading skills,
- help your children accomplish major creative tasks,
- encourage your children to participate in the quest for answers, and
- implement fun games, challenges, and more!
De Vries believes that parents can significantly impact a child's outlook on life. With Curiosity Kindling, you will learn the best way to be your child's biggest cheerleader and greatest supporter.
About the Author: Ann M. De Vries started her initial career as an engineer at a time when it was unusual for a woman to work in a STEM field. She received her bachelor's degree in physics from the University of California, Riverside, and her master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California.
After almost a decade and a half working as an engineer, and then spending some time as a stay-at-home mom, De Vries began a second career as a technical writer and consultant.
De Vries was very active in her son's education and understands the difference passionate adults can have on a student's success. She believes that curiosity is a value that has been lost in the modern world. She hopes her work will inspire you to nurture your own children's curious nature.
De Vries lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is married, with one adult son.
