El término esotérico se aplica a lo oculto, lo secreto, lo reservado, lo difícil de comprender; y las teorías científicas muy avanzadas podrían calificarse como esotéricas, al alcance de unos pocos. De la física cuántica se dice, por ejemplo, que es mágica; y si alguien afirma que la entiende es porque no la entiende, según afirman algunos de sus conspicuos cultivadores. Con estos cuentos especulamos sobre cuál sería el alcance de algunas hipótesis lógicas, científicas, filosóficas y, hasta teológicas, si se extienden más allá de sus propios límites. En "la sonrisa del difunto" fantaseamos acerca de la rebelión de una raza de hombres serios, tétricos, taciturnos, incapaces de reír, ni siquiera de la más ligera sonrisa durante toda su vida, porque la evolución los hizo así; que se mantienen ocultos desde épocas remotas y sus muertos son enterrados en el mayor secreto en ataúdes de metal. Pues, todas las risas contenidas que no tuvieron en vida se liberan en forma de ondas con el deceso. Las ondas contagian faltamente a todo ser humano a su alrededor, si se deja un taciturno muerto a la intemperie. Pero, un día deciden rebelarse cansados de los desastres de la raza alegre e irresponsable de los mortales risueños que dominan al mundo y dan un ultimátum a la humanidad para que le entreguen el poder total pues lo tomaran con mayor seriedad; de lo contrario, dejaran al descubierto muertos de su raza en cada gran ciudad del mundo, matando a la humanidad de risa. En "Lo insondable" contamos cómo sería para un personaje de ficción tener conciencia de su existencia ideal y compartir con los que vivimos en el mundo real la angustia del vivir. En 1950, el matemático Alan Turing profetizó que para el año 2000 las máquinas podrán escribir poesía y comentarlas; el punto que sus poemas y comentarios los confundan las personas con productos de un poeta humano. Esta tesis de Turing fundamenta el cuento "Poesía mecánica". "En busca de un hombre feliz" la ficción nos permite especular sobre los resultados de estudios estadísticos en busca de hombre feliz y al fin se consigue uno: un monstruo para la humanidad, por lo singular de su caso, que es todo lo menos que se esperaba. En "Optimus" tomamos como motivo el de un mundo de una sola persona clonada por millones de seres idénticos a uno solo: la humanidad de una sola mente, de una sola persona: de un solo ser. "IT: crónica del fin" es una proyección de la INTERNET como cerebro mundial y al contrario del cuento anterior, de millones de personas distintas unidas tecnológicamente en un mismo cerebro. En "La antesala al Juicio Universal", la tesis que se discute se fundamenta en la hipótesis teológica del escritor Giovanni Papini, y es que el arrepentimiento y las disculpas de los resucitados pudieran cambiar las sentencias divinas en el Juicio Universal.
About the Author: Alberto Castillo Vicci es profesor emérito, medalla institucional, de la Universidad Centro Occidental Lisandro Alvarado de Venezuela (UCLA) y, actualmente, es asesor académico en docencia e investigación en algunas universidades venezolanas. Es cobeneficiario del premio al mejor trabajo científico universitario de 2004 en ingeniería y tecnología. Ha publicado una docena de libros académicos de ensayo y divulgación sobre inteligencia artificial, metatécnica y fundamentos de la ciencia con la UCLA y el Instituto de Estudios Avanzados (IDEA) en Venezuela. Como escritor ganó el Primer Premio "La Tuna de Oro", en narrativa, de la Casa Nacional de las Letras Andrés Bello (Venezuela), en 2008, con su libro Cuentos esotéricos; y obtuvo el Premio "Retratos" de la revista El Viejo Topo, en España (2009), con la biografía Retrato intelectual de Bertrand Russell. Con su libro de cuentos Memorias de Mabil se alzó con el premio en narrativa de la Bienal Miguel Ramón Utrera 2011, en Venezuela. Su novela Demiurgo S. A.
