About the Book

Julio Antonio del Marmol joined thousands of others who escaped Castro's regime in Cuba. But unlike his peers, he becomes a spy and freedom fighter, working with intelligence services throughout the world. He leads one of the largest covert money-printing operations in history. This operation, codenamed "The Zipper," was created to finance counterterrorism and covert operations all over the world. It's his job to supervise a team that creates millions of dollars in US currency. Everything is going well until a trusted friend sets del Marmol up, pointing to him as a counterfeiter. Even though he has the undocumented sanction of government intelligence services, he's disavowed and abandoned. Facing a seventy-year sentence, he refuses to betray his team members. Sitting in jail, cut off from his contacts, he hatches a plan to escape-even as the Secret Service does everything in its power to convict him and send him away for life. Join a ghost agent who knew Fidel Castro, Raul Castro, and Che Guevara-only to see family and friends killed by their regime. He gets his revenge, but it's a battle just to stay alive in The Cuban Lightning.
About the Author: Born in 1947 in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, he followed in the footsteps of his father, Leonardo del Mármol in his love of freedom and justice. His father, one of the financiers behind Fidel Castro's Revolution, had been motivated by an outrage over the excesses of the previous dictatorship of General Batista. He communicated to his son, Julio Antonio, this sense of frustration and love of homeland. Julio Antonio became a military leader when he was only 12 years old. Castro, impressed with the youth's maturity and eloquence, appointed him Commander-in-Chief of the Young Commanders of the Rebel Army, and the Little Commander is born. He graduated with the degree of Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine from Havana University. While at that institution, he continued his studies in genetics and artificial insemination and attained a PhD in Genetics. He participated in secret genetic programs in cloning and stem cell research sponsored by the Cuban government. After Castro became an even more oppressive dictator than Batista, he turned against the Castro regime and the Little Spy was born at the unbelievably tender age of 13. Over the next decade, he became the most hunted spy in Cuba, codenamed by Castro himself as the Lightning. He took information concerning their most secret operations and invasions from under the noses of the top leaders of the government and transmitted it to the global intelligence community. This did not halt Castro's ambitions, but it frequently caused him great embarrassment with the United Nations. Following the discovery of his espionage activities in 1971, he escaped Cuba by swimming to the United States Naval Reservation at Guantanamo Bay. He became one of the most wanted international spies by Castro and the totalitarian governments around the world who were part of the intercontinental conspiracy to control politically and economically the Free World. Julio Antonio struck a bargain with the international intelligence community in order to stop Castro and his allies, and at the same time bring down the Soviet economies, return freedom behind the Iron Curtain, and reunify Germany with the fall of the Berlin Wall.
