Es un manual que, además de diseñar ejercicios de lectura encaminados al desarrollo de las capacidades de interpretación, comprensión, análisis y escritura de textos, constituye un recurso suficiente, si se quiere desarrollar la capacidad de razonar, reflexionar y ampliar el vasto intelecto que nos brinda la lengua para pensar y producir ideas, le crea un hábito de lectura.Muchos de nuestros manuales de enseñanza de español como lengua materna están cargados de contenidos y conceptos repetitivos, memorísticos que resultan cansones. Ya es tiempo de buscar nuevas estrategias para cambiar el curso de las ideas, y encaminarnos a las competencias educativas. Nosotros los docentes debemos ajustarnos a las orientaciones que dictan los programas de la institución, porque citando al Dr. Gerardo Roa Ogando, observamos que hay un divorcio con los programas y las enseñanzas en el aula: "nuestra investigación reveló que aunque los programas institucionales están orientados hacia el desarrollo de tales capacidades, las prácticas de aula que emplean los profesores no propician el análisis y la producción de discursos: no enseñan a pensar, sino a repetir. Un 80% de sus actividades docentes aún se basa en la cátedra de nociones sobre lingüística y estructuras puramente gramaticales. Por ejemplo, los análisis fonológico, sintáctico y léxico son privilegiados por encima de la lectura crítica, el análisis textual y la lectura de textos diversos."Es contra esa práctica que nace Cuaderno de lengua española básica, un compendio que contiene textos expositivos, poesías, cuentos, fragmentos de obras teatrales y de novelas, ensayos y otros textos diversos, con el propósito de enseñar, crear un hábito de lectura, redactar, interpretar, razonar, analizar y pensar cómo crear ideas. Ya nos abordamos en la máquina de un nuevo siglo y un nuevo milenio, cargado de cientificismo y avances tecnológicos, y para completar, vivimos en el mundo de la globalización y el mundo de la nueva tecnología: de la Internet, de la robótica, de la telecomunicación, de la computadora, el correo electrónico...; justamente en la época en que la ciencia entra a la casa por cable -la educación virtual-, sin participación del libro en físico y en proceso de renovación, cambio cada vez más violento. Siendo así, el perfeccionamiento de las técnicas y las estrategias de enseñanza-aprendizaje deben ser cada vez más exigentes si queremos competir en la preparación de jóvenes con aptitudes formativas y bien capacitadas.
